READ REVIEW on how to open/re-orient the head!
Love this hammer. Feels very sturdy, not cheap, with a nice heavy swing. Took me FOREVER to figure out how to orient the top to be horizontal. It's not clear from the product video at all. The answer is that after expanding it out slightly to give yourself some room, pull DOWNWARD on the rough bit just below the head (DON'T pull UPward on the head, as i'd been trying to do for the longest time). This will release the head, allowing you to rotate the head to the horizontal orientation and then allow it to snap back into the tube. Hope this helps someone. (See attached video)

This hammer has a little locking feature at the head which is a great design. My previous telescoping hammer didn't have this and over time, the head kept flopping down into the vertical position. The sharper end of this hammer had been coming loose (there's a brush inside), but a little thread locker fixed that. The only general down side about this style of reflex hammer is that it's quite stiff and it's harder to get a good response compared to ones with a plastic handle. If someone were to make a hybrid hammer that's mainly metal / telescoping, but has a plastic / rubber part to the handle for flex, that'd be perfect.

Good size
Love it. Nice size that fits in the pocket and durable build

This has enough 'oomph' to get the job done.
This has the proper weight to successfully test reflexes. Plus a brush and a 'sharp' point.

Worth the extra cost - well thought design and backed by a lifetime warranty
Was encouraged by attending doctors to use a queen's square or babinski hammer during med school. Most of the $10 ones break easily and are just too awkward to fit in your lab coat and bag. The cheaper/free hammers aren't weighty or precise enough to elicit reflexes in the patients who deviate from the norm. The harder plastics can also cause pain for some patients during tests. Other collapsible Babinskis have cheap rubber and even cheaper collapsing mechanisms without a folding head. But this MDF model is backed by a fantastic warranty and is extremely sturdy. The fact that the head folds flat with the collapsing rod means you can store it like a pen. The extra weight is worth it for the reliability and not looking like a goober with a two foot stick poking out of your coat. Most importantly, the higher quality rubber causes the least amount of discomfort for the patient. The only caveat is that other doctors will try to steal it from you. But that's true for anything you carry that's under 2 lbs.
