Blade edge not square.
Nice little plain for the money, however the build quality is not great. Initially wondered if it was an original product or a Chinese knock-off, but packaging and online pics confirmed it to be a proper Stanley product. The blade was badly out of true, and needed to be ground square and sharpened, and the foot had to be ground flat. But once that was done the plane works great.

Pleased with product, Stunned by rapid delivery.....
I have only so far used the block plane a few times after giving the blade a good sharpening, although it wasn`t that bad anyway. It feels good in the hand and is an awful lot better than the old one I had. But what I am amazed about is the fact I only ordered it yesterday, and it was in my house when I got in from work!! Brilliant service again from both Amazon and the carrier.

This is a fantastic little plane for the money
This is a fantastic little plane for the money, i was a little bit doubtful about purchasing this after reading some of the other reviews, ie the sole plate been a little bit course ground which has absolutely no bearing on the performance what so ever although can be easily sorted with a bit of wet and dry if you wish, and the front sole plate not always lay flat when adjusted just pushes back into place with no effort at all. Tremendous value for money if your in the market for a new Block Plane then don't think twice just get it and enjoy your purchase and your saving.

Low angle block plane.
This is brilliant with shaving flat the end grain of timber. Having a very sharp blade helps, using one hand to 'power' the plane forwards and the other to press down on the timber to ensure a planed flat surface. Can also use the plane to create a concave edge surface (used at an angle) that you could be using as a pattern for a thicker length of timber. Can still use the standard 30 and 25 degree sharpening angles. Would not be with our it.

Terrible Quality - Grim
Thankfully I bought this at the reduced price not the full indicated price of over £60 because if I had this would have been sent back ASAP because honestly, the quality is completely unacceptable for what is being marketed as a good mid range tool. The truth is that this is no better and in fact worse than some really cheap no name Chineseium junk you get for a few quid. First of is the finishing. Appalling. I've never in 35 years of serious woodworking come across a ground finish as bad as this plane. It looks like someone has tried to flatten the sole by dragging it across a tarmac road for a few miles. It is so bad and so rough that the plane 'grabs' as you try and use it. In hand, the sides of the plane, also ground by the blind butcher on the medieval rock clearly used, feel horrible. Nasty and unpleasant to touch. This may be over the top but this is the kind of plane used by enthusiasts and how it feels in hand matters. The plane blade was ground. And that's about as much as I could say about it. Not sure what it was ground with, the angle used and the flatness of the stone, but it was ground. Right out of the box this would not cut butter which, okay isn't the end of the world but this is the first time I've had a plane that was so blunt out of the box that it could not cut anything at all. Maybe Stanley now fit safety blades to their tools.... So, faced with what is essentially junk I took it upon myself to turn the sows ear into a silk purse. And it took me nearly two hours to manage that. The sole was the hardest part because not only was it ground with a grit size that left deep grooves, it was also as flat as the banana in my fruit bowl. I started flattening it on a granite top with paper but the hollow was so pronounced that in the end I had to use a linishing machine to get the mass of metal off then finish off by hand. The blade angle was wrong so I set my guide up at 25deg and reground it. When starting off I noted that the original grind was not close to being even and the back of the blade was no flatter than a ploughed field. See some pictures. So the combination of flattening the blade and putting the correct angle on and micro-bevel took me an hour. Once reassembled properly and set to cut this plane does a good job. But, it's too late for me. The fact that this came in so poor a condition and took so long to get it able to cut has soured it a bit. The actual price of this should be around £5 tops. Bottom line is that if you are looking to buy this sort of plane move on. There are far better options for the money because this really is bottom of the barrel stuff.

Purchased this to use in making a few cigar box guitars for family and friend. Arrived quickly and well packaged. While the base seemed flat and true and the blade reasonably though not highly finished I used 400/800/1000/2000 wet/dry paper attached to a dead flat surface to polish the base and remove grinding/tempering marks on the blade. I then sharpened the blade to a genuine razors edge. This little hand plane has been easy to use and adjust and seems perfect for squaring & truing the neck blanks & fretboards. Certainly recommend this Stanley hand plane to others who want a small hand planer.
