Epson Perfection V850 Pro scanner

Tengo el 700 ya. Este V850 pro es mucho mejor; con excelentes resultados en el escaneo de negativos en el modo profesional. He probado otros de menor precio pero al final sali perdiendo porque se fueron a la basura. Ahora estoy por archivar mies de fotografías tomadas en los 60s y esta es la herramienta mas importante en lograr la documentación de imágenes que de otra manera se perderian debido a que hacer reproducciones de nitrato de plata se llevaria demasiado tiempo y el costo seria exhorbitante. Mi escaner 700 también me da una gran nitidez y acabado. El hecho de que cuenta con dos juegos de plantillas es absolutamente indispensable para la producción. El costo refleja los resultados. Si se quiere trabajar en serio, otras marcas y menos costo ofrecen resultados inservibles y al final se queda uno con imágenes también inservibles. Altamente recomendada.

Ordered the Epson Perfection V850 Pro Scanner a little over a month ago. At first I tried using the Silverfast SE plus 8 program that comes with the scanner but it did not install unto my IMac. Had to call the Silverfast company to find a fix which they did help me acquire! After it being installed I really tried using it but the tutorials, I find, aren’t user friendly; maybe because I am not a pro, but it was taking to long and I was in a hurry to get scanning!!! Left this program to go with the Epson provided program which is easy to use and understand once you realize you need to move the mouse to start each individual scan!!! Love, love, love this scanner!!!!!! So far I have used it to scan slides, old (1950’s)black and white negatives, as well as early coloured negatives and I am blown away that I am able to capture these old memories and store them digitally to be able to share with my family and friends!!! Easy to use as well as exceptional quality scans!!! To this date I highly recommend this scanner for the time of scans I am using it for, hence the 5 star rating!!!

BLUF: This scanner is versatile, easy to install and use, and capable of handling most scanning needs. Stand out features are the ability to scan slides and negatives, thick books, both letter-sized and A4 documents at very high resolution. Scanning is smooth and reasonably fast. The latest Epson scanning software is available as a free download and in professional mode, it gives a substantial degree of control over all aspects of the scan. Scan output is excellent quality. MORE DETAILS... SLIDES & NEGATIVES: The first thing you notice is how thick the lid is. That's because it's designed to allow scanning of slides and negatives (requiring a light source inside the lid). Some scanners advertise the ability to scan slides & negatives, but only have a narrow opening in the lid that can scan one short strip of 35mm negatives or 4 slides at a time. This can scan 12 slides at a time. It also is designed to handle 35mm and two different medium-format negatives. If you skip using the holders, you can also scan large-format negatives, but you'll need something to hold them flat (I used a piece of plate glass). THICK BOOKS: The next thing you'll probably notice about the lid is that its hinge can be raised a couple inches. In fact, you even lift it off entirely without disabling the scanner. this means that a large book can be placed on the scanner bed easily, without a permanently attached lid getting in the way. DURABILITY: This is a well-built piece of equipment. I first used one at work, and never had any problems with it. I wound up buying one of my own when I started scanning old medium-format negatives. I've had this scanner now for about a decade and it continues to work flawlessly. PORTABILTY: This is for desktop use. It's large and heavy enough that you won't want to lug it around. You could, but it would be kind of a pain. SETUP: Easy plug and play for the most part, using a USB connection. You will want to download the latest Epson scanning software (free download) to get the most out of it. I got lucky: because I'd already been using Epson scanning software, it immediately recognized the scanner and I have the option to select between two scanner types (I use the other scanner when I travel; it's less capable, but much smaller & lighter).

Invaluable - I came across thousands of photographs, film, and slides from grandparents on both sides! I had my eye on this for over a year before I decided to purchase and I’m glad I did. Before, I was using a printer/scanner to digitize old Photos, and it did up to 600dpi, which is great, but this Epson performs up to 6400. 6400!!! So I thought I would be using the Max dpi on this Epson but the files are just absolutely gigantic without any notable quality improvement. So I wouldn’t necessarily purchase it for this aspect. I’m scanning everything at 600 dpi. Scanning the slides is arduous (sliding each one in place) but simple. The scan takes about 3-4 minutes for 12 slides. I really appreciate the slide image editing tools (sharpness, dust removal, color tone correction) as these have markedly improved the quality of the digital images. Overall, this was a big investment but has performed very well and I have enjoyed having it.
