Does this come with the fuel canister?

No. I went to Walmart and bought a cheap 4oz universal threaded can and it worked like a charm.

Is the fuel canister supposed to fit into the mug? Pictures on the box and online show that it does. I have an 8oz canister and its simply too wide.

Nick, The MSR Pocketrocket 2 Mini Stove Kit was designed to hold one small (4 oz.) fuel canister and the Pocketrocket 2 inside the included pot. It will not fit a 8 oz. canister.

Does this come with the stand

Hi, the MSR PocketRocket 2 Mini Stove Kit doesn't come with a canister stand. It's not really needed for use with the small pot that comes with the stove in this kit. MSR does make a universal canister stand that is sold separately. - The MSR Customer Service Team

I am totally new looking at camp stoves. what canisters fir this stove? i see plain number canisters, jf numbered and gm numbered. any difference?

Any canisters of that size that has an Isobutane/butane mix will work regardless of the brand. Coleman, Jet Boil, Snowpeak, Msr canisters are really all the same fuel and will work. Always be sure to read the manual to make sure and use proper assembly instructions.
