Is this more cost effective than buying a spool and doing your own or not enough of a difference if you value the convenience?

The thread is thicker than embroidery bobbin thread so you can use it for regular sewing also. I think it's less expensive if you count buying the bobbin to fill your own

Will this work with the blmfo flourish embroidery machine?

Babylock is mentioned in the list of machines. I have a Brother Embroidery Machine and they fit. Perhaps you can check with Babylock to be sure that Size A Class 15 (SA156) is compatible with your machine. My manual specifically mentions using 90wt poly so that would be another possible source to check on your specific machine. Hope this helps!☺️
