Nice Camera
I purchased the HCE-C1100 backup camera along with Alpine KTX-C10LP License Plate Mounting Kit and I must say it works very well. The picture isn't immaculate but its clear and does the job. I previously had two vehicles and used cheaper camera on one and another Alpine on the other. The one I installed the cheap camera's on I wound up have to replace them every few months, I darn near tried every cheap one made and they always quit working after a while, but the one I installed the Alpine on I never had a problem with for the entire time I owned the car. Foolishly I traded in the car and left the camera on it, if I thought ahead I would have removed it before I traded it in, but oh well live and learn. If the camera ever goes out or I have any problems with it I'll update my review but from past experience it seems Alpine cameras are the only ones that are built to last.

Alpine HCE-C1100 HDR camera
My rear deck is higher than the spoiler on my trunk. Can't tell where the back of the car is. Got an Alpine stereo and the HCE-C1100 rear view camera. I'm almost done installing everything. It should work great. The camera was easy to install and the small cable was easy to run through the license plate lights grommet. I have an older Alpine stereo and backup camera on my other car. Still going strong. Well, the DVD player died after about a year, but everything is is working fine.

Worked so well we got a second for a new driver.
This is the second camera of this model I have bought. The first is still installed and working on my Ford Excursion. Why the second? I trust it enough to install it on my 16 years olds car. Look, if trusting itโs safe enough for your kid isnโt a good endorsement, I donโt know what is. And I do like this kid. I know that can make a difference for some people. Anyway, I live in a high desert climate. 100+ in the summer, snow in the winter. Basically the temps can vary greatly. The camera is still working and going strong. Not sure what all you would want in a backup camera. But if itโs a clear picture of whatโs behind you this one is perfect.

Installation was a bit clunky and not well documented.
The camera quality is good, it is well made (sturdy?) but the installation is made difficult by the fact that the installation instructions require a PhD and magnification glass to read/understand. If you have some automotive electrical skills you can install it yourself, but if not, just have a good stereo installer do it for you. There really is no reason they couldn't provide MUCH better directions for the installation, they just chose not to. Once I had it installed, it worked very well. Picture is clear and as long as you are hooking it up to an Alpine headunit, it functions as you wold expect.
