โFrom infertility to aging to cancer and neurological disease, Dr. Lee Know will teach you that mitochondria play a central role in much that we care about in health and disease.โโStephanie Seneff, senior research scientist, MIT and author of Toxic Legacy With information for patients and practitioners on optimizing mitochondrial function for greater health and longevity Why do we age? Why does cancer develop? Whatโs the connection between heart failure and Alzheimerโs disease, or infertility and hearing loss? Can we extend lifespan, and if so, how? What is the Exercise Paradox? Why do antioxidant supplements sometimes do more harm than good? Many will be amazed to learn that all these questions, and many more, can be answered by a single point of discussion: mitochondria and bioenergetics. In Mitochondria and the Future of Medicine , Naturopathic Doctor Lee Know tells the epic story of mitochondria, the widely misunderstood and often-overlooked powerhouses of our cells. The legendary saga began over two billion years ago, when one bacterium entered another without being digested, which would evolve to create the first mitochondrion. Since then, for life to exist beyond single-celled bacteria, itโs the mitochondria that have been responsible for this life-giving energy. By understanding how our mitochondria work, in fact, it is possible to add years to our lives, and life to our years. Current research, however, has revealed a dark side: many seemingly disconnected degenerative diseases have tangled roots in dysfunctional mitochondria. However, modern research has also endowed us with the knowledge on how to optimize its function, which is of critical importance to our health and longevity. Dr. Know offers cutting-edge information on supplementation and lifestyle changes for mitochondrial optimization and how to implement their use successfully, including: CoQ10 D-Ribose Cannabinoids Ketogenic dietary therapy and more! Mitochondria and the Future of Medicine is an invaluable resource for practitioners interested in mitochondrial medicine and the true roots of chronic illness and disease, as well as anyone interested in optimizing their health. โDr. Lee Know does a brilliant job shedding light on this once ignored organelle and shows us how to care for our most important metabolic system.โโDr. Nasha Winters, co-author of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer Review: An absolute must have! - I listened to this on Audible. I was absolutely mesmerized by the life changing information that I had to buy the book to read it as well. This book is an absolute must have for anyone interested in human health, holistic health and nutrition, preventing/reversing disease, biology, medicine, and evolution. While this book is jammed packed with information, the author did a stellar job of making sure non scientists can easily understand the information. Review: Great book. - Absolute must to be part of medical schools programs and MUST READ. Good work on this book. An Excellent but Deep Treatise on Our Most Fundamental Body Operation
The information in this book is something EVERYONE should know. Unfortunately, the very nature of this topic is so deep and involved, it will be difficult for many people to wrap their minds around it. Personally, I find the information fascinating, but my wife's eyes tend to glaze over if we are reading it together. The thing is, the information presented here explains beautifully how the very most fundamental processes in our bodies operate - the processes of converting nutrients and oxygen into energy and "replacement parts." If you don't know what this is and how it operates, then you will probably continue to do things that destroy your body, one small thing at a time. If you expect to live to age 40 and beyond, you cannot afford to continue damaging your body and your health. The most basic element of our body's operation - and our health - is our mitochondria, and I urge everyone to learn as much as you can about what they are and how they work. This book is one way you can do that.

Well written and full of helpful information!
Dr Know has done a great job of taking complex and difficult to understand concepts and breaking them down in a way thatโs easier to follow. This was very informative and presented in a way that made it easy to incorporate into my wellness journey.

Learn why Mitochondria dysfunction is the foundation for nearly all conditions of affluence
This is the best book I have read on mitochondria and pathologies, and thus I highly recommend it. For the medical nerd, like me (with the largest health website independent of industries) I find major pieces of the puzzle missing (parts that I am including in my book that is 2 years from publication). He misses the case made against sugar (Gary Taubes and Robert Lustig) and the conditions of affluence also called AGEs (advanced glycation end-products) which explain how sugar causes mitochondrial dysfunction. Fructose the reactive sugar bonds with proteins and polyunsaturated fats transported into the mitochondria. Lacking the fructose entails the harm fructose does through fructosylation. On the plus side is his excellent ability to communicate to a health educated audience, the many, many insights he has on processes. This book is a giant step forward for those struggling with the puzzle of our health disaster have not included mitochondria dysfunction. fructosylation is the reactive chemical that has overloaded the repair processes for the mitochondria. Most researchers on the right path stop with insulin resistance and too much refined carbohydrates. We should know more about our body than our car, thus read this book.

Deep dive into the extreme importance of healthy mitochondria!
Excellent book!! Great insight into the vital importance of the mitochondria and where chronic disease REALLY stems from! HINT: Its not genetic! It is not necessarily an easy read, but a good read. He goes into lots of detail about the mitochondria, electron transport chain, oxydative phosphorylation, etc...I absolutely loved it. I learned LOTS!

Perhaps the best non-fictional book I've ever read
So much good information in this book, and it's put into a format that makes a really complicated subject easier to digest. I am recommending this book to everyone I know. Dr. Doug Wallace (considered the godfather of mitochondria research) is another great resource for all things mitos, but most of his talks on YT are geared towards clinicians. Another brilliant doctor, Dr. Jack Kruse, has figured out the quantum biological relationship between our light environment and mitochondria. I would highly recommend him as well if this is a subject that interests you. Turns out sunlight can fix a lot of our ills (and eliminating artificial blue light exposure through your eyes and skin), and this information is withheld (or represented as a poison, which is ridiculous) from the public because they haven't figured out how to charge us for sunlight...........yet.

This is an easy-to-read look at the latest in mitochondrial research and the mitochondrial theory of aging.
Can someone please explain why Dr. Know released this book with a new title when it contains virtually the same content as his previous "LIFE - The epic story of our mitochondria"??? It's STILL a great book, one that will change your understanding of the aging process. Dr. Know uses his knowledge of mitochondria and the mitochondrial theory of aging to elucidate the role of mitochondria in chronic disease, from cancer, heart disease, metabolic syndrom and diabetes to neurological diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, ALS, ADHD, anxiety and depression. He explains how understanding the role of mitochondria in chronic disease closes many of the holes left by the "Free Radical" theory of aging and suggests rational interventions that should result in healthier mitochondria and longer health span. Excellent job!

Great book on the latest on mitochondria, what they do, why they matter, and how to help them
Very important overview of latest insights in what mitochondria do, how they work, and how with supplements we might help them function better. None of this was taught when I was in medical school.
