Good Option for The Price.
Sturdy, well made, functional for the purpose they are made.. Has a wide paddle to place bait of choice on. Then pull the snap bar back and carefully brace it with the post bar. This is tricky if you do not have steady hands. The trap occasionally snaps when I am in the process if putting it down after setting. No protection for fingers, so only hold this trap around the edges. The wood soaks up some of the blood when a rat is trapped, so clean up is difficult. The rat doesn't always die right away, so triggers me emotionally with strong empathy. These traps are most affordable though, so a necessary evil to those of us who are low income.

Good stuff.
They work and they are an improvement over the earlier style trigger bar. They cost a bit more and are labeled the professional version. I buy these and the others by the case. Smeared bait goes on the trigger and on the trap. Be generous with that final meal you offer to those who are soon to depart. Lingering in the kill zone is the fatal behavior you are after. Approach should be from only one direction. Wear gloves or a plastic bag for scent control. Big ones shrug off a trap. See youTube for DIY teeth. Here's how I do it. With gloves on, drill through 1/8" holes at 3/8" in from the edge and 1/2" on center across, just inside a resting snap bar. Eyeball it. Add ~ 1" long drywall screws in your pilot holes. Those are your teeth. You get a quicker, cleaner dispatch with teeth. Add a leash so that your trap doesn't wander off too far.

VICTOR, what have you done-fix this thing-the free answer is in the summary
Purpose for Product: I have used almost every rat trap on the market, and nothing is more reliable than the Victor brand. I am down to the last two and need a resupply. Product Inspection: The wooden pad is thick enough to hold the staples and handle the snapping force. The metal parts ae robust to handle the torque action. The plastic trigger is new to me and am not sold on it yet. Product Performance: It did not take long to get disappointed with Victor. I was able to get ONE trap to set out of the dozen. I have been using Victor traps for years and never had this problem with older metal triggers. If the old trigger got bent from use I could just bend it back and it would work fine. I am not one to give up easily so off to the workshop to tinker with these things. Problem seemed that the plastic was just too slick for the metal trigger piece to hang on enough to arm the system. Didn't want to distort the plastic tab so focused on the metal arm. Noticed that when the end was cut from original wire source there is a little sharp barb on the opposite side that would contact the plastic. Placed the metal arm into a vise and bent it slightly and then roughed up the tip with a rough file. This was all it took to make the traps easy to set put into use. Summary: VICTOR- if you are listening. Here is the answer to the problems with setting the trigger. FOR FREE. When you are cutting the wire arm- just cut the wire on the opposite side so the little metal barb is on the side that contacts with the plastic tab- problem solved that easy.

7 rats in one week
These are 5 star traps if used properly. I have caught 7 rats in my backyard in the last week using these traps. TIPS: use peanut butter, works much better than cheese. When setting up the trap, what I found works best is to apply the peanut butter to the catch, and then place a rock under the catch to keep it elevated slightly. Fold over the hammer and apply the holding bar, making sure the holding bar is under the catch. Once the trap is set and placed on the ground, I use a stick to gently knock out the rock i placed under the catch. As an aside, I prefer these old fashioned traps to poison as we had a family of eagles that died here in Florida after eating poisoned rats, so the poison doesn’t just stop at the rats. It continues down the food chain.

Works well, can be hard to set
The bait tray is too sensitive in my experience. I use peanut butter with cheese and if you have too much, the trap won’t set and triggers. Cheap enough to trash after each use but sturdy enough to reuse. Kill rate is higher than the plastic traps

The "Gotcha" Rat Trap
I'm 82 years old. I baited and set my 1st rat traps a few days ago. Easy to set once I got the hang of it even for these old hands. Have successfully caught a rat a day and sometimes as many a 3 in one day over the past 10 days. Rats and mice are sneaky little devils showing up where you least expect them. Once their evidence (droppings and gnawed material) is discovered it's time to spring into action.. Victor rat and mouse traps are the absolute best.

Effective traps, but had some duds.
Had rats in my air vents (yikes!) and this trap was the absolute best at catching them. Very effective and easy for rats to get bait. My one qualm about these traps is that in the pack I purchased, at least 2 traps were unusable. The metal stick on those traps were unable to keep the detonator up so they couldn’t be set up at all unfortunately.

Excellent, Effective, and Humane Rat Trap
Update 10/27 The traps are still doing great! I ended up ordering more, and so far they’ve taken out eight rats. I’ve learned that a little adjustment can make a big difference — using a bit more peanut butter and setting the plastic pedal to be less sensitive has worked best at catching the rats that weren’t getting caught before. The main takeaway is that you may need to tweak things a bit depending on the behavior of the rats in your area — some are more skittish or cautious than others. I’ve also noticed that they’ll sometimes change their paths to avoid the traps, so moving them occasionally can help. I have large trees where they seem to live, so I’ve caught more than I first expected, and I plan to keep the traps out for a while. Just be mindful of where you place them, especially if you have kids or pets around. One thing to note: I did have a squirrel trigger a trap once. It didn’t die, and I was able to release it safely, but it’s something to be aware of. Overall, these traps have been very effective, and I can see why so many professionals use them. Highly recommend. ************************************************ I’ve had great success with the Victor M205-9 Easy Set Snap Rat Traps. In a short time, we’ve eliminated 4 rats outdoors. The traps are very sensitive, which I consider a major plus—it ensures they trigger quickly and cleanly. I’ve found the best baiting method is to put a few small drops of peanut butter in the little bait cup near the base of the pedal. This encourages the rat to step directly on the trigger, resulting in a swift and humane kill. The tension is high, which may seem intense at first, but it’s exactly what you want for an instant result. I did have a couple traps trigger without catching anything early on, but since adjusting the bait amount (less is more), they’ve worked flawlessly. I haven't had these for long, but I could see the staples coming out over time, which hold the spring and kill bar. Once a rat is killed, it's easy to pick it up by the trap, avoiding contact with the rat, and then put in a bag and toss in the trash. Highly recommended if you're looking for a reliable, quick, and environmentally conscious rat trap.

Victor M205 (not M205R) rat trap.
As said in other reviews get the M205 not the M205R. Even the M205 spring tends to bend after 7 or 8 goes so get the 12 pack. You'll see the paths the rodents make. I've found putting 2 traps together side-by-side with springs in opposing orientations across the run works. Put loads down and you'll get them. No bait required. I've taken over 40 out in the past week alone. Very effective traps.

Don’t buy if you like your fingers
Absolutely garbage trap. The plastic does not support the metal bar. Impossible to set up without breaking your fingers…avoid
