is this okay for chinchillas?

Yes it should be ok my friend chinchilla and she give it to them

Is it good for Gerbils?

I would think it would be okay for gerbils :)

is it any good for bird box?

Hi, I've put a small amount in my birdbox the last 2 years & have had Blue Tits nesting in there both years:) they really don't like too much tho, we watched the Blue tit getting a little feisty the 1st year, pushing hay back out of the hole! Also good for hedgehog boxes, we have 3 return each year.
