Sharp Mechanical Pencil, (0.9mm), Bold Line, Yellow Barrel, Pack of 2 (P209BP2-K6)

A great pencil. The color makes it easy to find when I set it down in the shop. Easy to hold on to, it hasn't slipped in my fingers yet. I bought them for woodworking but use them for everything now.

I tend to press too hard when writing and snap the lead off repeatedly. I love the .9 mm lead as I don't have to worry about snapping the lead. It rarely happens. The slim design of this Mechanical pencil make it easy to hold. I have several of these I keep all over the house, in my purse and at work. They are sturdy and last a long time. In fact, I have not had to throw any away and I've been using these for at least 15 years. The only con I would have is the tiny eraser. Wish they would incorporate a wider eraser into the top so I wouldn't have to use a different eraser with this pencil. The small one works great for just a single letter or two but if you need to erase several words it's too small. I'm a bookkeeper so I get a lost of use out of this pencil. Great value! I press too hard when I write. I know I shouldn't, but I've been writing that way for 45+ years, so I'm not likely to change now. Before I got my first Pentel 0.9 mm, I wanted to use a mechanical pencil, but I couldn't because I constantly snapped pencil leads. 0.7 mm was bad, 0.5 mm was unusable. So I was stuck with wood pencils. That all changed when a friend introduced me to the Pentel with the 0.9 mm lead. It is a joy to write with because I finally have a pencil that almost never breaks. It's comfortable to hold, too. I'll warn you that the 0.9 mm lead leaves a very bold line, so that may not be what you want. Personally, I love that too. I've been drawing almost exclusively with this model pencil since I was six years old. In spite of being a mechanical pencil, the extra thick/soft lead makes drawing very smooth. It creates thick dark lines and majes shading easy to blend. And it's very comfortable to hold. This model stopped being available a bunch of years back so it's nice to see it so easily obtainable again and I no longer have to stress about losing one. The only downside is that the lead reservoir that is capped by the removable eraser will stretch out at the end over time causing the eraser to push all the way in. Not the end of the world since you can always just use a separate eraser but it's still disappointing when that happens. Also, many many years ago the pencil weighed just a little more (thicker plastic) and I liked that. Not a dealbreaker though. 0.9mm lead is not something most people would need and even fewer people would think to draw regularly with but I really love it and it works out surprisingly well.

What can I say: these are my favourite pencils. Smooth, solid, and I like the 0.9mm lead size. Great for drawing as well as writing.
