Lightweight, Compact, Versatile, Hygienic, Comfortable, Sturdy
With the pandemic closing public restrooms or reducing how frequently they get cleaned, we decided to add a portable toilet to our gear so we could get out and enjoy the outdoors responsibly. We considered a bulkier all-plastic model that looked more like a port-a-potty toilet, with enclosed space below, a removable commode bucket, a liftable seat, and a hinged lid, but we ultimately opted for this one, and we're so glad we did! Lightweight: great for carrying down to the beach (along with our privacy/wind shelter and portable hand-washing station). Compact: Folds flat to fit easily in the back of our van, even when it's full of other gear, and has saved us on longer drives with our newly potty-trained youngest child. Versatile: Makes a handy chair for changing out of wet clothes inside the wind shelter. Hygienic: Its simple design means there are no nooks, crannies or grooves to worry about cleaning, unlike the other model we were considering. We use a 13 gallon trash bag folded over the whole seat, which holds it securely. So the toilet itself never has a chance to get any unpleasant messes on it. We do one bag per pee/poo, which isn't as environmentally friendly as it could be, but it reduces the yuck-factor to a tolerable level for our kids. We also use a gelling "poo powder" that is excellent at neutralizing odors (especially important in the halfway-through-a-long-drive scenario!). Comfortable: This one feels just like your toilet seat at home. The other model we were considering had a narrow, uncomfortable seat. Simple, Sturdy & Stable: The steel frame is super stable, even on loose sand. It feels like it will last for years.

Very happy so far!
It traveled well. Was very sturdy. Did not collapse. I would definitely purchase this again. Came in handy atop a mountain and even doubled as table base. If you want to use a bag to collect “stuff”, the bag will have to go over the entire toilet seat.

What a lifesaver!...
For the last 4 years we’ve rented what’s called a semi-primitive cabin near the C&O Canal in Maryland every spring — that means it has electricity and well water, but also an outhouse (and no showers between Nov and April). Outhouses were not an issue until one visit it was storming day and night for 2 days, and trekking to the outhouse was no picnic. This spring we brought the Green Elephant portable commode and used it with the Trail Essentials biodegradable toilet bags. They worked brilliantly together! The Green Elephant commode was very sturdy and stable, and was a good height from the ground. The bags fit snugly over the top of the seat and remained in place until they were removed. Because the bags were biodegradable, they could be dropped into the outhouse once the rain cleared. Highly recommend this commode — it folds away when not in use or for transit, and is solidly made and comfortable in use.

Sturdy, Light Weight & Effective!
I'm a trucker by profession and it's an unfortunate truth that toilets are not always available when you absolutely have to go. I bought this toilet seat to carry just in case I find myself in this predicament, as I already have in the past and it is absolutely awful & uncomfortable when you have nothing but a trash bag on hand. This toilet seat feels incredibly sturdy and is the perfect size to get the job done while being easily portable. It is very light weight, too. My only complaints are, firstly, that the item arrived with a slightly misshapen frame, as can be seen in one of my attached photos. Surprisingly, it still seems to sit flush when unfolded and only shows when folded flat. My other complaint is that the powder coated legs have scratches and scuffs all over them, I've pictured one of the larger scuffs and the toilet seat itself has minor staining and blemishes. Overall, this is still a great product and will serve its purpose well. I find this to be a much easier, less involved, alternative to other camping toilets that require water/chemicals and routine cleaning.

Reasonably well made. Strong enough to support a 220 pound adult.
UPDATE on 2/07/2018: After months of use, I am raising the review from 4 to 5 stars as this product has been remained durable and is easy to use. NOTE: We pay for the "Double Doodie" bags which - while expensive per usage -- make for an easy, no accident usage and disposal experience with this seat. If you use other types of bags, you'll have to find ways of securing them to your satisfaction - see the rest of my review below. It works, reasonably well made. We use this in conjunction with Kirkland trash liners https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002S4RSEW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and a cup or so of kitty litter as an occasional backup solution when we are doing bathroom remodeling or have contention for our currently single bathroom. (We put it in a lockable basement utility room so have privacy still). If you are paranoid about spill/leak/accident you can double the amount of bags, and /or instead buy purpose built bags with gel like the "Double Doodie" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0024O0W94/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_19 brand bags (which I HAVE tested and now use exclusively with this folding chair. The "Double Doodie" bags fit great and work great.) This is strong enough to support a 220 pound adult. As some have said it's not the tallest unit but I find it sufficient. It seems a bit high priced at $49.95 but I don't feel it will collapse, it seems sturdy, reasonably well made.

Well worth the price! A great addition to our campout gear!
This portable toilet chair is worth every cent of its price!! Very stable and sturdily constructed. The full-sized seat is especially nice. We are on our first tent campout with it right now and have already used it for two nights. Much better than making those middle-of- the - night trips to the bathroom building in your pjs with a flashlight! I do recommend using two 13-gallon trashbags with the drawstring handles. First one is for insurance in case the main bag leaks. Come up from the bottom through the seat with bag one, stretch bag opening over the seat rim and secure in place under the rim by pulling the drawstrings tight. Then open bag two and tuck down into bag one, stretch its opening over the seat and secure same way as the first bag. I sprinkled in some cheap, low-dust, clumping scented kitty litter in the bottom of the liner bag. After each use, sprinkle in a little more litter. In the morning, simply untie the drawstrings of the liner bag containing the waste. Tie it shut then tuck it down inside the first bag. Then tie that last bag shut and you can carry it all down to the trash can to dispose of. No mess, no smell. Thanks Green Elephant for this valuable addition to our camping gear!

Sturdy, quick solution that folds out of the way
Folds out or away quickly and easily and does the job. Perfect for use with 13 gallon trash bags. That size will hit the ground underneath, but that's good. Even a properly expanded bag can catch and hold, say, toilet paper to meet you the next time if it decides to shift about a little while you're dropping ... various things ... into it. So smaller bags will work, but I like a little distance between me and my business. Anyway, it's sturdy and a bit low. I think those two things go together, as the more extended (tall) it would be, the more likely to break or tip over. Besides, sitting low is supposed to be very good for you when doing what you'll be doing on the seat. At a bit over six feet tall and 220 pounds, I'm fine with this seat. I went to the dollar store and got a rectangular container a few inches high to let the bottom of the bag rest in. Just in case a bag ever leaks or breaks outright. I'm not rocket-powered, but hey ... things happen. Might as well be safe.

Where have you been? So worth it!
I just got back from my 3-day hiking trip. I went for it and purchased this thing and some biodegradable bags. Going to the bathroom in the wilderness is always an issue for me & the stress of figuring it out can detract from my enjoyment of nature. Not anymore! I’ve built outhouses for groups and you still have to deal with a group mountain of no thanks. Not with this. There were 4 of us and by the end of the trip we were all so thankful for this little treasure. At 3.5 pounds, it’s a commitment for a hiking trip and sacrifices might need to be made. It’s ok, it’s worth it. My 12 year old says that it was the best experience of his life. He sat on a hill with birds chirping and the sun setting, burried the bag and came back to camp in awe. The best part, the bag keeps it all clean, we used the thing as a camp chair (sacrifices) and it was great. I wouldn’t suggest going bagless with the cross beams and I need to figure out the best way for the ladies and #1, once I get that dialed, it’s 10 star. I will do an out house again in car camping, with this beauty, but everyone will walk out with there own goody bag and the outhouse will stay fresh. I am very happy with my purchase and it is well made. Find a good spot and go in luxury with your new favorite camping tool. Strapped to my back pack, it took a besting and it still looks brand new.

Strong and comfortable
I'm a big guy, and I felt safe and comfortable using this commode while camping. Beets squatting any day! We have never felt so comfortable going when camping.

Make sure you put something under the seat for best results

Decent portable toilet that works but quality concerns
The Green Elephant portable toilet works as expected. Purchased the Pink toilet for $44.99 + $12.00 shipping/import, rather than the more expensive color Gray toilet of $108.86. However I would suggest better quality control in the assembly of the metal base, and the removal of all the sharp edges on the metal base. The toilet that I received had the metal portions of the base mounted way too close to the edge of the toilet seat, and protruding past the toilet seat on the one side. And since the metal edges are all very sharp and has not been sanded at all, its a major risk for cutting yourself or your leg, and a potential amputation risk between the brackets when someone has their fingers in the wrong place when folding it up. This Green Elephant branded toilet is made in China, and a lot of products made out of China has inferior quality control problems and often has metal pieces with extremely dangerous sharp metal edges. I do like the usability factor of the toilet so I will keep it, but I plan on taking it apart to polish up/smooth out all the sharp metal edges so the women and children using it will not cut themselves, and/or use duct tape to cover up some of the sharp edges.
