Excellent
A very good self-teach study course. However, I found it a little too advanced for myself at this stage, so have bought "Teach Yourself Algebra."

A great beginners guide to Linear Analysis
An excellent book and a great guide in the bewildering world of linear analysis during my first year at uni.

Challenging language and notation
Written by mathematicians for maths students. (i, j)th and sigma notation in first few pages. Esoteric and obscure language makes it up hill for a beginner. Needs to be more down to earth for engineers and include applications.

Book is great, printing is poor
The contents: the book is concise and rigurous. Clarity and motivations are good. There are enough examples and almost all problems have solutions. Just as promised an just what I needed, so 5 stars. The printing: horrible print on demand with font size so tiny that make it difficult to read. I have read a lot of similar complains from Springer printings. The authors are Blyth & Robertson, not Montaigne as announced by amazon.

By far the best book for reference
I need a linear algebra book for reference in my research and this one (as well as the other book "further linear algebra" fits that purpose well. I kind of thinking that the exercises are way too easy, though.
