Surprisingly good.
At this price point, this kind of redefines the home coffee game. If you want to try dosing your beans and grinding immediately before brewing, but arenโt ready to commit two-to-ten times the cash to do it, this might be your destination grinder. Iโve watched the online reviews and they seem very picky about very fine variations in espresso shots, or a few seconds of grind time, or very slight differences in the percentage of fines. Ignore that stuff. I was planning to be mildly disappointed. If thatโs important to you, this probably isnโt your end of the market. I think for most people, thatโs an insane upsell for people moving up from canned coffee. Letโs be realistic: this is a flat burr grinder, with a small footprint, that can grind consistently from fine powder, through espresso, aeropress, filter, and drip, all very consistent and repeatable. You can switch settings easily between batches, going from morning drip to evening espresso without having to clean out the machine. Itโs stepless with clear markings so you can switch settings and return to them later easily. It has an anti static feature like a much more expensive grinder so you donโt have to spray your beans every time. The workflow is really quite convenient. The clear dosing cup is a positive feature because you can see the grounds in the portafilter. It makes minimal mess. Itโs competitive with grinders like the Niche Zero, and itโs potentially better, especially if you do espresso, for less than half the price. This is an excellent grinder. I have some minor annoyances. The forks for holding the dosing cup or portafilter are like a stiff silicone so are slightly floppy and less positive than I would like. Itโs better than something like ABS plastic that youโd find on something from the big box. I got used to it quickly. People complain about the bellows being loose, but this hasnโt been a problem. The lid on mine is looser than the bellows so the lid comes off first unless I specifically pull off the bellows. Tapping the bellows a few times at the end of the batch to expel grounds just becomes habit, so I donโt think about it. Thereโs a small cutout for the cord on the bottom, so when I pick it up to clean the counter, it never wants to sit flat until I run the cord through the cutout. No big deal. Itโs not super fast, but weโre talking something like 20 seconds, versus 10 seconds to grind a typical 18 gram dose? This isnโt meant to be a commercial grinder and Iโm usually waiting for my machine to heat up anyway. I just think the complaints are minor for what you get.

So far so good...
1 Month Update: I still really love this grinder. Best value purchase for the grind quality you get. After about 1-2 weeks of use, I noticed more static in the grinds, but a simple clean with the included chute brush resolved this and it's back to clean static free output. I've also started to spray my light roast beans, but not necessary for dark to medium roasts. I still love the look and how sturdy yet quiet it is. I also recommend hot starting for grinding to help maintain grind consistency. No clogging issues whatsoever. You can't go wrong with this grinder if you're looking for something for home that provides a quality grind to elevate your espresso journey. Original review: I wasn't one of the early adopters of the DF54, so I had to wait for the next batch shipment to be available so I could get my hands on one. My previous grinder was a Baratza Encore that barely met standards in terms of a good espresso grind (very inconsistent, muddy flavors), which it wasn't really designed for. I've read some of the complaints of the DF54 in terms of the zero point and static issues and I have to say so far I have none of those issues. Maybe they tweaked the manufacturing to address some of the prior issues to improve Quality Control on these latest arrivals. 1. My DF54 right out of the box hasn't had any static issues yet, even when grinding light roasts (which tend to have more static than darker roasts). 2. The Zero Point was spot on. Just turning the dial a hair past "0" was where the gear "chirping" happened, so I'm happy with this calibration. 3. First few grinds had a little bit of retention, but after that and using the bellows, the final grind comes to +/- 0.1g from the initial beans dosed. 4. Some video reviews talked about how the bellows come off too easily from the grinder, but with mine, the bellows are fairly snug that if I try to remove them, the "anti-popcorning" cap slips out with it, so seems everything fits well together. I haven't check the burr alignment on this unit, but so far I don't feel like I need to. For Espresso grinds, I have it set in the vicinity of 20, and my shots so far have produced wonderful clarity for fruity notes, but enough smoothness for flavors like vanilla. Very satisfied with my purchase. I really love the compact design, the quiet operation and pairs well with my Bambino Plus. I'll provide an update in 1 month.

Great until it clogs - just buy a DF64
Coming from a Capresso Infinity and then Breville Smart Grinder Pro, and having spent some time with a gen 1 DF64, I wanted a grinder that would allow me to switch between espresso and pourover, and regular and decaf beans from drink to drink. One grinder for everything. The DF54 is an appealing option as it's affordable, single dose, stepless, and compact. At first I really liked this grinder. It's small! It's quiet! It makes incredible espresso! However, after making a few drinks the grinder clogged on some dark decaf beans. After a thorough cleaning it clogged randomly. Medium roast espresso grinds did best, but I also experience clogs on some medium roast Blue Bottle Beans (at 5am! The worst possible time!). Other users complain about clogs as well - see Youtube user CaffeMartellaSingapore's video on Feb 15, he shows that simply by dosing an extra 7g of beans his DF54 clogs. The reddit r/df54 sub is absolutely chock full of people complaining about clogs, this is not an isolated issue. While the coffee this grinder makes is excellent, and the small size, low price, and quiet operation would make it ideal for home use, the clogging is incredibly frustrating. After agonizing over options I finally ordered a DF64 and while it's larger, much louder, and more expensive, I would strongly recommend it over the DF54. It handles the same beans at the same grind settings with alacrity. Far more confidence inspiring, and lower retention. My unit might just be a dud, as plenty of people don't complain about clogging, and the Turin grinders seem to suffer from quality control issues. If the DF64 didn't exist I would keep this grinder as an espresso grinder and use a different grinder for pourover. However, given that the DF64 does exist, costs the equivalent of a few bags of coffee more, and performs tremendously better, just buy a DF64. Pros: Excellent espresso Compact size Stepless adjustment Low retention Very quiet operation Cons: Small dose size Slow grind speed Static-prone plastic dosing cup Terrible clogging issues make it extremely unreliable to unusable. Two week update: I bought a DF64 and making 8 double shots a day with a variety of dark and light, cheap and expensive beans - zero issues whatsoever. Just some static and it's a bit loud. No clogs, no retention, I haven't had to disassemble anything. Tremendously less finicky than the DF54. Which is too bad, because if the 54 worked reliably I'd keep and recommend it. Six week update: DF64 has never had a single issue. I have also been experimenting with a Kingrinder K6 originally bought for travel, but find that it works incredibly well for espresso. Zero retention, easy grind adjustment. If you're just beginning with espresso I would recommend a good hand grinder. It's far easier to learn with than a cheap electric grinder. I would take a K6 over a DF54 if I were on a tight budget. Four month update: the DF64 has clogged once in four months, where the DF54 clogged at least half a dozen times in two weeks. Same users, same coffees, same workflow.

High quality espresso grinder
My previous grinder was conical and not bad to start with. However, it does not go fine enough for good espresso. I decided to buy this one as a replacement and I can't be happier. It is built of metal like a tank and I don't doubt that it will last. Even the power cord is wrapped in flexible high quality insulation. I only wish it had a 30 second power cut-off timer so I can leave it be and focus on the coffee machine in the meantime. It is very easy to use and much quieter than my conical grinder. It produces uniform grounds which make tasty espresso even with my inexpensive De'longhi ECP3420. I upgraded to a bottomless portafilter and that brought my morning espresso an extra notch up. My main issue with that procedure now is running it correctly while sleepy. I've tried medium and dark roasts. The medium roast never produced static electricity with either of my grinders. The dark roast used to make very bad static with my previous grinder. A tiny spray of water on the beans removed it entirely. This grinder, when clean, makes almost no static with either roast type. After continuous use it started to produce a bit of static and a few grinds stick around the exit chute. It's minimal though and very manageable. The motor is plenty powerful and shows no sign of struggle with the beans. Update: after a bit over 2 years now, this grinder still works fine. I had to clean it once after trying a sort of fermented coffee which I found stinky. Besides this, I have not had issues with clogging or anything which would require cleaning. There are a few types of 54mm burrs on the market now and I bought a spare pair. Not sure if I'd ever need them but just in case.

Nice consistent grind.
Bought this based on a James Hoffman video, and am not disappointed. Adjustment is smooth and holds it's setting well. Still not hard to take apart to clean. Grind seems nice and consistent. Solid build feel, this unit is a UNIT. I was skeptical about the bellows, but it does work well, very little grind is left behind. Relatively quiet too, and the noise it does make is not that horrible screeching I hear other grinders make (for me it was the biggest selling point from the video tbh). Half star off for each of two minor issues. One, the power button is awkward to reach and use when the machine is one of a row of coffee-making gadgets. If it really has to be located where it is a toggle would be much easier. Second, the supplied plastic cup is probably 90% of the remaining static issue others have noted - throw it away and get a cheap metal cup from elsewhere on this site instead, it dissipates static much better (I use a 3.5oz metal ramekin). Note the bracket does not fit my 54mm Breville portafilter, so no grinding directly into it.

Good grinder with minor annoyance...update
March 3, 2025 Good grinder so far but with minor annoyance - The quality is good but it came without configuration. I rotate until it the burr touch and it is -7. Instead heating up the dial and remove it and line up with 0 at the touch I just extend the dial with negative mark. So I grind at 4 (means 4+7=11). - The grinder produce consistence grind but some of the finer grind will stick to the side and eventually fully block the chute even with the ionizer. I need to clean the chute every week or use the bristle to clean it every time I use it. - I have no problem with only 150W as I always turn it on before pour in the beans. - Grinding your own bean is a messy business. No matter how careful you are you will still get ground everywhere. I am keeping this grinder and will update after a few more months. 4.7 star with points mention above. Update::: messy grinding, clogging often... a piece of junk!!!

For me, this grinder was not what it was hyped up to be
I admit to have fallen victim to all the social media hype about this grinder. Sure, it's inexpensive and may very well be a good grinder for the price but it did not meet my expectation as an upgrade for my manual KINGrinder K6. The good: - Inexpensive - Quiet - Heavy duty motor (I assume because it's really heavy) The annoying: - The so called "plasma generator" (ionizer) did not seem to help to reduce the static. The photo was after grinding ONE dose. Basically, the grinder makes a huge mess and those little grounds get EVERYWHERE - The part of the grinder where the rubber bellows attaches is not ribbed at all and the bellows just slides on and off. When removing the wooden cap, the bellows always comes with it. Maybe a zip tie would work here - The grind size adjustment ring is smooth and can be hard to turn. That ring needs to be knurled so you have something to grip onto The bad: - Coffee grounds (especially on finer grinds) build up FAST and will jam up the output chute. - Output chute hole is very small (shown in photo) and it will get clogged quickly - Does not work well for switching bean types between doses Disassembly is simple enough because the top just unscrews. Cleaning it out is another story. It comes with a little brush, but I had to break out the toothpicks and bamboo skewers to unclog the grinder and it was a giant pain in the behind. When I got a good look at it, I realized just how bad a design this was. Admittedly, I've not looked inside one of these powered grinders before but it seems pretty bad compared to my KINGrinder K6. Maybe it's how all flat burr grinders are compared to conical burrs. The K6 has conical burrs and the grounds just fall from the burrs into the cup. On this flat burr grinder, the grounds are blown to the outsides of the burrs where they fall into a channel and then get scooped up and ejected down a tiny chute by three scrapers. It's way to easy for the grounds to clog up that little hole and then you're dead in the water. Not a good situation when you have a kitchen full of people who want their coffee NOW. Sadly, I'm cleaning this thoroughly and returning it. It's back to my trusty hand crank KINGrinder K6. That grinder has NEVER disappointed me the way that this DF54 has

Outstanding Burr Grinder
Before purchasing the DF54 Burr Grinder, I conducted extensive research on burr grinders. Most reviews highlighted the DF64 and DF54 as the best options for the price. While the grind speed and replacement burr options differed [DF54 doesn't have replacement burrs availabe yet since it is a new model] between the two, there wasn't much difference in grind quality. Based on this, I opted for the DF54. I've been using the DF54 Burr Grinder for the past three weeks, and it has truly elevated my coffee-making experience. Hereโs why Iโm so impressed: Grind Consistency: The DF54 delivers a consistently even grinds every single time. Whether I'm grinding for an espresso or a French press, the grind size is uniform, ensuring a good extraction. This consistency has significantly improved the taste and aroma of my coffee compared to my old conical grinder. User-Friendly Design: The design of the DF54 is both sleek and practical. It is very easy to adjust the grind size. The clear markings on the dial allow me to switch between different grind sizes effortlessly. Additionally, the grinder is relatively quiet, which is a big plus for those early morning coffee sessions. Anti-static apparatus appears to be working great, I havenโt experienced any static issue. Durability and Build Quality: The build quality of the DF54 is impressive. It feels solid and well-constructed, which gives me confidence that it will last for years. The burrs appear to be made of high-quality stainless steel, which not only ensures a precise grind but also enhances the longevity of the grinder. Excellent Value for Money: Considering the performance and build quality, the DF54 offers exceptional value for its price. I think it matches or outperforms many higher-priced grinders on the market, making it a great investment for both novice and experienced coffee drinkers. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase of the DF54 Burr Grinder. It has made a noticeable difference in the quality of my coffee, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their coffee grinding setup. Five stars all the way!

It's surprisingly quiet for a burr grinder and the build quality feels solid. Easy to adjust grind settings and minimal mess. I use it daily for my morning coffee and it's made a noticeable difference in taste. Great value for the price and would definitely buy again!

Even after a year - Still is a perfect grinder that are affordable
After a lot of research on which coffee grinder to buy, and after using the Sage Smart Grinder Pro for a few months, I decided to buy the DF54. Since I only use lighter-roasted Specialty coffee for espresso, the Sage Smart Grinder Pro did not work well. It is good for normal medium or dark-roasted coffee purchased from the supermarket, but with light-roasted specialty coffee it often got stuck (choked), sometimes it could not grind the coffee finely enough, and if it succeeded, it was on setting 1-3 out of 60 available (with the internal setting on 3 out of 10 degrees, he couldn't do less than that because otherwise, the conical burr touched one from the other). In addition, it had a huge retention (0.5-1.0g), unacceptable, until I got an excellent bellows by Fused Line (then retention was from 0.1-0.3g without cleaning, but inside the grinder always stays 2-3g of old coffee). However, to get to the point of this review, because of the above, I decided that I don't want to have these various problems anymore and I was thinking about the DF64 or Niche Zero model, which is currently a bit out of my price range. However, in these few months, DF54 appeared and since then I looked at all possible reviews, and concluded that it could be the one I wanted. Even though I came across several negative comments, especially on Amazon, I still ordered it as soon as it was available. Since it is apparently in high demand, I had to wait more than a month for it to be delivered, but that's fine. I've had it for more than a week now and so far everything is flawless. I hope it will stay that way for at least the next couple of years. So far it hasn't had any problems with choking, although I only use various light to medium-roasted single-origin specialty coffee. On average, I grind for espresso on a setting between 12 and 20 of 90 settings, depending on the type of coffee. So it can grind much finer than it grinds now. Retention during the first grinding (new grinder or after cleaning) was approximately. 0.3g, everything after that is practically zero, or sometimes 0.1g, all with a few pressures on the bellows. Without the use of bellows, it is about 0.1g. That's a great result for any grinder, especially after experiencing of using the Sage grinder. With humidity in the apartment between 40-50%, I have no problem with static electricity and the grinder is really clean. It dispenses coffee very consistently, without lumps. It works pretty quietly while grinding, and almost silently without coffee. And when it is without the lid, it does not throw the beans or anything inside out thanks to the anti-popcorn disc. I've seen many people comment in video reviews that the bellows fall off easily, but that's not true. Because the bellows have different sides, up and bottom sides, and the difference is visible from the inside, so if it's positioned as intended, it won't fall off the top of the grinder. In any case, I can't find any flaws so far. I hope it will remain so in the future. In addition to all of the above, I brew coffee on a Gaggia Classic Pro (built-in PID and variable preinfusion, 9 bar springs, and IMS Competition and BigBang baskets), and I can only say that with this grinder, the coffee is incomparably better, creamier, better body than before with other grinders. The conclusion is that this (after ten days of use) is a superb grinder for a very affordable price. And the DF54 grinder's build and look are exceptional. 07/2025 UPDATE after a year of using: After more than a year of using this grinder, I can confirm that everything still works perfectly. A few months ago, I checked for the first time the gap between burrs, and it was pretty balanced. I do a very small correction on one side, but nothing significant. I just need to put 2 small pieces of aluminium foil below the screw of the burr on the upper part of the grinder, that one that had no rotation (you can see it in the picture). But that is normal when using this grinder daily, at least a few times per day. Note: I use only high-quality specialty coffee, light to light/medium roasted, so the coffee beans are slightly harder than regular coffee, but so far without any problems or burr choking. I hope that all remain the same in the future. I highly recommend this grinder.

Awesome grinder. We have been using this grinder for a while now. No issues. Consistent outcomes. It is very quiet and is powerful for whatever type of coffee you need to grind. It is also pretty fast and blasting out 18.5 grams I would definitely buy again
