Vortex Car Window Mount

Excellent and works great.

This should work great with my Vortex 85mm spotting scope this year. Seems to have very solid clamps for the window, the horizontal swivel and vertical swivel motion. The metal is very solid and heavy, not flimsy at all. The knob on the side might be a little hard to turn with gloves on, but thin gloves should be fine. Someone else commented they wish it had an adapter to go from this window mount to a tripod mount. Like all things, accessories exist. I use a manfrotto fluid head with QR plate, so will be using their 1/4-20 mounting plate adapter with the QR plate on top of this mount, then I can take the QR plate attached to the spotting scope and move it to my tripod head and this mount. Not a big deal. Those manfrotto QR plates release with a lever and positively lock in place just by pressing down on the plate into the adapter or the tripod head. You don't need manfrotto brand, there are plenty of knock offs that are very similar and will get the job done.

Product is very sturdy and well built

The window mount is made well with he exception of the pan knob. It is either locked down or free, it doesn't allow you to add a smooth resistance to it. I have purchased a couple pairs of Vortex binoculars, one came with a Tri pod/ mount adapter. You cant use the Vortex adapter and binoculars with this mount. The tilt handle hits you right in the face. I had to but a different adapter. I liked Vortex products, but I feel they should make sure all their products work together as a product line.

Worked perfectly, used many times with no issues.

This was exactly what I was looking for. However, the second time I used it, it became unusable. My camera has a long lens and the device began to pan down while I was shooting. I tightened the handle to stabilize the down turn and the handle stripped out. I did not return it because I believe that I was too heavy handed and I created the problem. Threads cut into soft aluminum are just not designed for heavy pressure. After some thought I decided to drill all the way thru the striped threads and re tap with a much larger and course thread. Now I tighten a small bolt to stabilize.

Works well. Good for glassing from a vehicle. Solid and well built like all vortex products.

I have not yet used this however appears to be a solid build with smooth head.
