Brave Stories.. A must read for every Indian!
I loved the stories of valor, grit, patriotism and determination. What's not to love about such strong qualities? The stories are real. The lives lost are real. The difficulties and obstacles endured by our soldiers are genuine. The knowledge that there are such brave souls out there who die in such terrible circumstances will make your heart bleed but, I promise, knowing them and their valor will strengthen your soul. The book isn't a very crisp read. The editor could have done a much better job because the author tends to repeat her thoughts and words through the stories. Also each chapter could have been aligned better (an editorial error) and that would have made the brave stories a crisp and much better read. I chose to concentrate on the stories which were real and had a lot of heart; hence regardless of the small errors made by the author, and her editor, I choose to give this book a well deserved 4 stars. Had the book been a crisp read, I have no doubt; I would have given it a 5 star rating. We tend to take our freedom for granted. We complaining about silly stuff like potholes, traffic jams, about standing in line to pay our property taxes, all the while when there are valiant souls guarding us at the โwallโ, who sometimes in remote areas, lack ration and adequate clothing. Do read this one. Itโs a must read for all Indians! Extremely prompt shipping and delivery by Amazon! 5 stars for that!

A welcome addition.
A welcome addition to literature related to the sacrifices of our brave soldiers. The author could have treated some issues with sensitivity. For example, in the article about Somnath Sharma, we have the author say: "That was where Somi saw a wounded Kumaoni soldier sitting against a tree. He asked the man to run but when he replied that he was not able to stand up, the tough and battle-hardy Somi carried the man on his back, right through the Japanese crossfire, laughing all the way, and bringing him back to safety. The two were not shot, possibly because the Japanese respected raw courage". Mind you that the author is dealing with an extremely sensitive subject where Indians were pitted against Indians (the British Indian Army against the Indian National Army fighting under the leadership of the Japanese). Talking of the whole army as "Japanese", the author misses an opportunity to instruct the Indians of what would have been going through the heads of the soldiers pitted on both sides. After all, all of the Indian National Army men were fighting as part of the British Indian Army not too long ago. It may well have been possible that the Indian National Army men didn't fire at a brave fellow Indian carrying another wounded soldier. (This is not to take away the chivalry of the Japanese in any way). In the above instance and in a few other places, the author hasn't swayed from the "official" / "politically correct" line. If the focus of the author was to chronicle the exploits of the Param Vir Chakra heroes only and not to delve into the larger political discourse, slips such as the above may have been avoided. But the intentions of the author seem noble and she deserves kudos for a well written book which is a product of quite a lot of hard work.

a telling tribute
What price bravery. When an ordinary but caring young man finds it in him to show what stuff he is made of. How many are posthumous! A nation cries and thrills. However once the conflict is over, the army is forgotten. Let us teach our youth the example set by these young men. These are the martyrs for the nation.
