South American gay-themed drama. The film follows the relationship of childhood friends Matías (Ignacio Rogers/Joaquín Parada) and Jerónimo (Esteban Masturini/Blas Finardi Niz) who are split apart when Matías's family decide to move to Brazil. Ten years after leaving, Matías returns to his former home in Argentina with his girlfriend Rochi (Renata Calmon) where he is again reunited with his old friend Jerónimo. Years after having their close bond suddenly shattered as innocent kids, the pair discover they still hold passionate feelings for one another but will they finally be able to embrace and act upon them? Review: Fabulous ! - Two Boys grown up and the flashback they were kids. They were kindred friends . Grown men they one of them is gay and one think he's straight . Brilliant film, it's a happy ending ! Review: Argentinean Coming Out film - This is the story of Matias and Geronimo who were childhood friends and summered together at the farm of Jeronimo’s down in the estuaries hence the title. Then Matias’s father takes a job in Brazil just as the two boys were beginning to understand their sexual desires and identities. Then the story moves up to the present day when after many years of separation they meet again but Matias now has a girlfriend and his life seems to have been mapped out for him. The problem is that the feelings both have long held resurface once they are reunited and there will be ructions for all. Now this is not a ground breaking film both in terms of plot or presentation. It is a small story and has been called clichéd by some. However, it does have a certain charm and the actors are all very good, the bedroom antics are tasteful too and it all hangs together well. It is not great drama or aiming to advance the cause of gay lib but it is just a simple story about life, love and choices and as such I found it to be well worth a watch.

Esteros
A lovely film about a man who gradually realises what his real feelings are. The subtitles are in white, which makes some of them difficult to read. The lovemaking, after the initial kisses, is not very clear & often too dark to see clearly.

Beautiful and perfectly judged
I am not much bothered by whether it fits the category of a love story, a gay film or more broadly just a story about life. What matters is that it’s superbly done and the viewer is drawn in. Much of the filming - including what is heard - is extremely well judged and executed, in beautiful natural settings. The immediacy and spontaneity of the boys when they are young contrasts aptly and believably with their rather more reflective adult selves, and the eternal truth - that life is more complicated when you are an adult - is made evident. Not profound, but true to life and natural. I particularly liked the sequence where the pair - as men - replay (as it were) the episode of splashing around in the water that we had seen occur when they were boys, and then lie still in the water gazing up, as before. It’s the same but not the same. They are the same people they were, but different. Life has moved on, but they seem to be getting the rare chance to revive something precious. It doesn’t affect my assessment of the film, but, yes, as others have said: the subtitles are often unreadable, which seems a careless and unnecessary mistake to make when preparing the DVD release.

Absolutely wonderful film
Truly moving film. Wonderful acting, and heartwarming story, set in 'the Land of Shining Water'. Highly recommended

undemanding and predictable, and doesn't engage very deeply
I feel a bit disappointed by this - it never seems to emerge from a join-up-the-dots kind of feel, and the plot arc is quite predictable. The flashbacks to the past are perhaps the best part, the two younger actors having more vitality than their older counterparts. The problem is partly the superficial script, partly the digital images - which look so clear and soulless, at one point they are sitting shirtless in the sun (the top image on the box) and it really looks like 3D, totally artificial. At other times, like the sex scene, it is so dark all you can sense is the panting and just have to assume the bodies are there on the screen. I must admit to a prejudice against widescreen in this kind of intimate drama - there is no gain, but rather it creates a distance from the characters, with too much space around them, and nothing very interesting to fill it. It just makes the images seem diffuse. The film attempts to give depth to the present by showing the past, but it is all rather thin. It's very much the kind of thing that has to be seen as a gay genre film, rather than something of real interest beyond this niche, but with films like God's Own Country and Call me By Your Name setting the bar so high, substandard fare like this doesn't have much purpose. It's a little like the Mexican film Four Moons, but not as good as that, even.

Nice story, one of the best films period.
What a wonderful love story. It is kind of like Boyhood, except it is gayer, more intimate and the protagonists remain lifelong friends, with benefits. These two boys are the best of friends and would have never have been apart as most of their family was aware of where they were headed. And they were pretty cool with their togetherness. Yet, a mere look, with not so much as one word from the father of one of these boys changed the trajectory of their lives. I experienced a very similar situation when I tried to come out, at age 18 to the family members I trusted and looked up to. Like these two lovers, after many years, I realized I was hiding who I was because I didn't want to lose my family's approval. The setting is Argentina and the people live in small mostly rural town, but it does not feel impoverished. The people in the story love their lives and their family. You walk away with a beautiful feeling, see it or see it with some one you love!

Beautiful Movie, quick mailout too!
The DVD was sent out to me in Australia from the UK in a very very short time! Excellent service. The subtitles are in white so not as easy to read in some scenes and I noticed the translation was slightly different to another version I had seen. But so glad Amazon had it in stock and sent it so quickly! Excellent movie.

Expected more....
Overated, but OK. Slow paced and somewhat lacking substance. There are many other better thematic, coming-of-age/gay movies out there, i.e. Heartstone, Night has settled, Departure, Call me by your name, North Sea Texas, You are not alone, etc.
