Nintendo Super NES Classic Edition

When I got this for my birthday, I thought it was a very nice gift. (And not too expensive either.) Ever since Nintendo came out with their NES, they have had an effective method of holding onto the market for decades now. Sure they had their one setback with the Wii U. But they have more than recovered since then. In the late 80s to early 90s, there was the 16 bit war between the SEGA GENESIS and the SUPER NINTENDO. In the form of flashback devices the war has started again. Once again, Nintendo prevails. This system has 21 games in it. (Well, 22 if you count "Street Fighter" II twice since it includes both 'Champion Edition' and 'Hyper Fighting.') True the SEGA GENESIS Flashback has 80. But 40 of those games aren't even SEGA games. 40 of those games are TERRIBLE crapware games. PROS (1) The price is right. (2) It come with 2 controllers. (3) While it only has 22 games in it vs the 40 games of the SEGA GENESIS flashback, the 22 games are really good highlight picks. (4) There is a 'save progress' feature. So you can finish long games such as "Super Mario World" in segments even if you only play a few minutes a day. (5) There is a rewind feature. So that means if you mess up, you can rewind and rectify the error. (6) It is small and easy to find a place for. (7) Many of the games will look sharper than they did back in the days of the original SUPER NES. Very pleasant surprise! (8) It connects HDMI. (9) Minor, but worth mentioning. You have an option on how you want to play these games. You can make the screen look artificially old, you can accept standard play, or you can make it pixel perfect. CONS (1) My only con here is somewhat subjective. I would have considered this device PERFECT if it had included "Killer Instinct" (or a cartridge slot like the SEGA GENESIS Flashback). But if you have these original SNES cartridges you want to play again, it's easy enough to get a SUPER NES device for $50. SIDE NOTE: Not really a con, but worth mentioning. The screen option allows you to fill in the side bars with different scenery. Besides being pointless, I DO NOT recommend this. Besides it being pointless, it distracts you from what you're trying to do in the game. As if it's magic, you will find yourself losing a life where you never would have before. FINAL ANALYSIS I really do recommend this device. It's fun and nostalgic. You really are getting a lot for your money. And it combines classic games with the modern convenience of saving progress and rewinding. And you have the option of if you want to play with an artificially old look, a normal look, or pixel perfect look. Buy and enjoy. FINAL NOTE: When it came down to deciding what to buy back in the 16 bit war era, I chose SUPER NINTENDO because it came with SUPER MARIO WORLD and STAR FOX. And they were smart enough to include these 2 games in it.

I was hesitant to buy this because I really wanted one, but many of the reviews stated they'd received knock-off products and not the SNES Classic. I decided to go ahead and buy it, though, and I did indeed receive the real thing. I can't speak for other reviewers, but the seller I ordered from was called GFMEDIA, and the order was fulfilled by Amazon, so maybe that has something to do with it. Since I bought it from another seller, I did pay about a 25% mark-up on top of its retail price. That said, onto the actual product! The SNES Classic is MUCH smaller than I expected. When I saw the box on my doorstep, I thought I'd been sent the wrong item because it was so tiny. It really does fit right in your hand, and it's very light. The controllers have no weight to them, which was probably the most disappointing thing about this console. The controller cords are about 5ft long, which is going to be very short for some people, but Amazon does appear to sell controller extension cords. The console comes with an HDMI cable, which is about 3ft long, and a USB cable. If you want an AC adapter, you have to buy it separately, but I just plugged mine into the USB port on my TV. The console plays well, and the controllers are very responsive, and the menus are fairly user-friendly, although it did take some fiddling to figure out exactly how to get back to the home menu after entering a game (you just hit reset on the console). This makes the short controller cable kind of better, in a way, since you need to be near the console to quit out of a game. The short cables are also sort of charmingly nostalgic. I sat on my living room floor leaning against my coffee table playing Zelda, and, for a moment, I felt like a kid again. Speaking of Zelda, the titles on this thing are GREAT! They're the reason I bought it! Earthbound, A Link to the Past, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox, Star Fox 2, and so much more all on one console for about $100 was worth it to me. These are all titles I played (save for Star Fox 2, for obvious reasons) as a kid on my big brother's SNES, so having them all again is bringing back some great old memories. All in all, I would highly recommend the SNES Classic if you can find it for a decent price. $110 is probably the highest I'd go for it, but the nostalgia factor is pretty high for me, so your personal limit may be lower. It is a great little console with some incredible games, though. If you can find it for under $100 anywhere (or for its MSRP of $79.99), it's definitely a must-have!

If you are a fan of the SNES system from your youth, you are going to love this! If you think your kids who have never played SNES are going to love this... they might not. A lot of the appeal of this is sentimental and although most of the games are fun even if you've never played them before, a lot of young kids don't appreciate the 16 bit graphics and simplicity of most of these games. Mario Kart for example is fun, but the graphics are pretty rough and nothing like the newer Mario Kart games that are out. Zelda, Final Fantasy and Super Mario World are timeless classics in my opinion, but again, kids may not have the patience to play through them, and may be frustrated with how hard they are. For adults who played this as kids, this is a great way to revisit the old classics, and I highly recommend this system. It includes 2 high quality controllers with long cords, and an HDMI cable. The unit is powered with a micro USB cable and has a save feature and a nice interface that's easy to use and overall it's a great experience. Considering how much these games cost when they were new ($40-50 each), this is a great deal altogether, and there are some fun surprises like Starfox 2, which wasn't previously released. Great system, great value, and a great way to relive old memories from the Super Nintendo era. Your kids might love it, but I wouldn't get this primarily for them.

I never had a Super NES as a kid. We grew up poor so we had the NES and that was it. I am not bitter about it; I understood why. I managed to play most SNES games on Nintendo's Virtual Console and 3DS systems as I got older. Imagine my surprise when I found out the Super NES Classic was being made. I was really excited to own something that I never had and have a piece of my childhood filled. It was only by luck did I manage to get this. The pre-order was sold out. But, I received a random text from Amazon saying their Treasure Truck was in New York for the day and selling this. I bought it instantly and picked it up the same day. Imagine my excitement when I opened this. It was like I was a kid again. My very own Super NES, now in compact form! The controllers were the same size as the original I played at my friends' houses. The console works just like the original with the Power and Select switches. The wiring has gotten simpler: there is a micro-USB cable to power it, and an HDMI output for your TV. I played the first game I remembered when this launched: 'Super Mario World.' It's been a delight playing this on a big screen TV. I chose the scan line option to make it look like an old TV. You can choose from that, or a 4:3 ratio, or a pixel-perfect mode which makes sure every pixel is square. There is the ability to choose different wallpapers for the left and right empty sides on your widescreen TVs. I chose the retro speaker wallpaper. I intend to play most of the games in release date order. Thank you, Nintendo, for making this, and giving people a chance to relive the Super NES, or experience it for the first time. Recommended.

DO NOT PAY MORE THAN RETAIL FOR THIS ITEM. $79.99 is all you should need to pay. Wait for lightning deals to pop up and they will. I bought this item and received the SNES classic just after Christmas. I've been playing it since. The unit itself is tiny, it's smaller than a paperback book. It has short controller cords but I replaced the controller with a wireless one that is pretty much identical to the stock controllers except you can get out to the home screen easily by pressing "down" and "Select". Otherwise you need to get up and hit the reset switch on the unit itself, bah. It has a bunch of great games, all your classic favorites. Earthbound is what I'm currently playing. You can save your game position and rewind through your last few minutes of gameplay and restart from the rewound position so if you make a mistake you can correct it. It makes things a little bit easier. These games are often uncompromising in their difficulty and it helps when you're playing as an adult who might not have the ultra-fast reflexes of a sugar-hyped preteen. It's great as a nostalgia device but also for people like me who didn't have an SNES as a kid, these are great games in their own right.

First things first. Thankfully, it seems Nintendo has learned their lesson from the NES Classic and the backlash they received for its woefully limited production run. Not only has the second release- the SNES Classic- been more widely available in stores, but thankfully there's enough of them that scalpers aren't able to charge completely ridiculous markups for a used copy, as was the case with the previous "Classic Edition." You can easily snag a new, unopened box for about $100 online, or still find them in stores for about $75 if you look hard enough. Last year, not a single store in my area got more than a dozen, and all were sold-out within minutes- this year, I've seen multiple stores with them in stock on several occasions. It seems production on this particular model has been really ramped up. Second, as someone who really enjoyed the NES Classic Edition, I can't help but feel that the SNES Classic Edition is an even better release! Sure, there are fewer games... but they're all certified masterpieces and amongst the best of the best in the Super Nintendo library. From "Super Mario World" 1 & 2 to "Super Metroid." From "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" to "Star Fox"... the SNES Classic has 20 icons of the 16-bit era loaded and ready to go. And as an added bonus, we even have a 21st game in the form of the previously-unreleased "Star Fox 2" to boot! (Which can be unlocked after you beat Level 1 of the original.) It's really cool that after only being able to play the game through emulators, we finally have an official, completed release. I also really appreciated that the system comes with two controllers to support multiplayer games, and some extra added gameplay perks, like save-states and optional borders around the game-screen, given that it's a 4:3 system made to play on widescreen TV's. If you loved the SNES growing up, or even have been looking for an affordable and fun way to play some of its library for the first time... definitely snag an SNES Classic while they're still widely available! Hopefully, a potential Nintendo 64 Classic is on the way, and it's as widely available as the SNES Classic is!

Been dying for one of these as soon as the official news on them broke out earlier this year. The preorder chaos was total crap and I was one of the MANY who lost preorders on Amazon due to the unfair "link" change But ironically enough, when all other peorder avenues failed me, Amazons Treasure Truck saved the day on launch and I was able to get my very own special memory of my childhood in my hands Growing up as a kid in the 80's and 90's, I could never afford the insane $200 price of the SNES, so I had to constantly visit my friends house to play StarFox, Super Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat 2 and many many others that I never got to play because I never owned a system and then Playstation and N64 launched and the gaming world moved on. But now, I have a really freaking cute and enjoyable way to try out many of the early 90's SNES games I missed out on in one adorable package. Its not perfect. The HDMI cord included is short, the controller cables are still way to short, AGAIN! Some games have tearing/texture issues and the sound isn't perfect if your really picky about such things. And it REALLY, REALLY SUCKS that you have to get up and hit the reset switch to go back to main game selection screen. There is NO WAY to do that via the controller. Lame Nintendo.... Thankfully, Nintendo gave us 2 controllers this time and unlike the poor and ugly Europe model, we got USB power adapters included in our version. I had to buy extensions as the stock 5 feet simply is not enough and I no longer like to sit that close to a TV unlike my youthful gaming days But now I can recline back and relive the wonderful early gaming 90's days when life was so much simpler

First, when plugging in and powering on, my unit takes almost a full ten seconds to go from a blank, black screen to operational. But there's also no intro logo, no normal loading screen, or any of that normal start-up stuff upon power up; it just pops into the game menu. That's the first strange warning sign... Second, the main menu music doesn't loop correctly. It stops after a minute, glitches to a totally different song for half a second, stops completely for another second, glitches again, and then resumes. Not really a big deal, but again, certainly a warning sign. But then, when I go to reset a game to return to the main menu, I get this strange "Operation hints" popup (see photo). And the ellipsis after "Being saved" (see photo again) has like six periods after it rather than the proper three periods. That doesn't seem like something legitimate or authentic from Nintendo. Looks more like something you'd get from a knockoff. But even then, these are small issues that, by themselves, would be nothing to complain about. However, Mega Man X is simply unplayable. I played this game on SNES almost every day of my childhood in the 90s, and you could always slide and jump with a charged shot in the game once you acquire the boots. But not on this SNES ROM. Something is terribly wrong here. I have other ROM ports of Mega Man X on both the Switch and the Xbox One, and you can also slide and jump with a charged shot in those versions. Sadly, on this SNES classic version, it doesn't allow you to do that; you basically stop and essentially glitch out when trying to execute this maneuver. We have also noticed other limitations and serious response-time lags between the controller and the on-screen sprite in several other games. This is either a bootleg product or a terrible, terrible release by Nintendo. So disappointed, and so are my kids. I will also be sending this review directly to Nintendo. I cannot fathom why "Operation hints" would be a thing to say. Very bizarre.

I was so hyped when they announced this. I had already collected the NES classic edition so this was a necessary get for me. It comes with 2 controllers (big upgrade compared to the NES classic edition, which only came with 1 controller), 1 HDMI, and 1 power micro-usb plug and cable. The controllers are pretty much the same except for the fact that my hands have grown since I last played a SNES system. The 21 games that are included are Contra III: The Alien Wars, Donkey Kong Country, EarthBound, F-Zero, Final Fantasy VI (one of my favourites), Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Course, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (another personal favourite), Mega Man X (one of the best SNES games ever), Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Star Fox 2 (never released in NA before), Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG (another favourite of mine), Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out!!, and Yoshi's Island. Some of these games I've spent hours playing as a kid. It's been super fun just to relive my childhood. Very nostalgic. If you can get your hands on one for a decent price, I would recommend getting it! I can't wait for the N64 classic edition to be released!

Muchísimo mejor de lo que esperaba. Me sorprendió el diminuto tamaño de la consola. El valor de nostalgia es fuerte, los juegos corren sin ningún problema perfectamente, la librería es amplia y las versiones son 100% iguales a como se lanzaron. Estaba dudoso de comprarlo por el precio, pero después de un tiempo de estar jugando he comprendido que es una inversión que vale la pena totalmente. Estoy tan feliz con esta compra que los contras ni siquera afectan la calificación de cinco estrellas que opr siempre le daría: Contras: Los cables de los controles, aunque son más largos que los del NES Classic, se siguen sintiendo un poco cortos. Tuve que comprar una extensión. Para cambiar de juego hay que poner reset en la consola. Esto no es un mayor problema, pero siento que las consolas actuales nos han hecho algo huevones. Sin embargo, esto no era un problema de morro en el SNES original y no veo por qué ahora ha de serlo. Muy contento con esta compra.

日本版よりも値段が倍近くしますが、英語の勉強にもなるので、どうせならと思い購入しました。アメリカのスーファミを昔から体験してみたかったので。収録ソフトも若干違います。カービイボール、悪魔城ドラキュラが入っているのは、うれしかった！でも日本版のパネルでポンは欲しかったけど（これには収録なし）

Simplesmente incrível, está tudo muito bem parecido com o console original dos anos 90! Até mesmo a caixa e o seu conteúdo como o manual-pôster. O console é realmente muito pequeno, como podem ver na foto ele cabe na palma da minha mão! Eu fiquei babando só de ver e pegar nesses controles originais tão novinhos, não via desse jeito desde o final dos anos 90. Já fiz uns testes aqui, joguei um pouco de Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, e o cabo HDMI realmente faz toda a diferença para jogar em alta definição nas TVs atuais! O menu é muito bonito e de fácil acesso, e você pode alterar a qualidade e tamanho da imagem pro seu gosto: tem o modo scanline, com as linhas na tela que simulam as TVs de tubo da época, tem o tamanho 4.3, e também a resolução original que é um pouco mais a achatada, além de contar com diversas molduras para as laterais da tela não ficarem vazias, e dão um charme a parte. Para os jogadores amadores, a Nintendo adicionou a função de save state e a função de rebobinar o jogo para um momento que você quiser voltar no jogo. Eu não pretendo usar essas duas funções, pois quero ter uma experiência igual dos anos 90 (mais difícil), mas ainda assim são bem vindas para os jogadores menos experientes e que não tem muito tempo para se dedicar aos jogos; Eu só tenho um ponto negativo a falar sobre o produto... O plástico, tanto do console quanto dos controles parecem ser de baixa qualidade. É um plástico aparentemente frágil, e mais áspero do que o modelo original... eu diria que parece ser o mesmo plástico dos controles piratas de Super Nintendo que você encontra nos camelôs. E por falar no plástico, a tampa dos controles na frente do console é um motivo pra ter cuidado redobrado! Já que qualquer movimento brusco pode quebrar ele, mas nada que atrapalhe o seu desempenho e a diversão que terei com esse Super Nintendo... Basta ter muito cuidado, claro, se você não for um ogro saberá preservar bem o produto, que ainda não deixa de ser de uma excelente qualidade com o selo Nintendo. A Amazon que faz um serviço de alta qualidade, teve bastante cuidado na embalagem, não veio nenhum amassado na caixa! Para quem é colecionador e gosta de manter tudo novo por anos e anos, é claro que isso inclui a conservação da caixa do vídeo game. Demorou uma semana para eu conseguir comprar o meu Super Nintendo, mas os agentes de atendimento do chat virtual me ajudaram a comprar assim que o estoque fosse reposto e fizeram a gentileza de adiantar o prazo do meu frete grátis em uma semana. Dois pontos positivos para a Amazon! Agora com licença porquê irei jogar um pouco de Star Fox! É Nintendo ou Nada! Now You're Playing With SUPER Power!
