Will a "heat gun " work to start the pellets/smoke? approx how long would it take with a heat gun? thanks

I fill it 4/5 full. At about the top I put 1/4 of a Weber lighter cube on the edge and light the cube with a cigarette lighter through the holes and stand on end. In about 10 minutes the wood pellets are smoking nicely. I get about 4-5 hours of good smoke. Use less pellets for a shorter smoking time.

Can I use wood chip instead of pellets

Yes, you can use wood chips however, they will require more airflow to stay lit well and they don't last as long. We've successfully used them on a Weber Kettle style grill with both vents open all the way, as well as our pellet grill. Pellets work the best and burn much longer though, due to the design of the EZ Smoker Tube and the density of the pellets. Hope this helps, Vince
