Broan-NuTone S97012026 Fan

Bought this to replace a broken Broan-Nu Tone 688 model. Had it installed in less than 10 minutes. Works perfectly and fit great!

Purchased three from [Merchandise Mecca] and I received genuine Broan replacements. The units had Broan and part number engraving and was a duplicate of my 31 year-old builder units. Part received was 688 (rev K) and my originals were 688 (rev H). No noticeable differences in revisions. New units popped right in, connected plug and all was good. As to noise, the 688 is a basic builders grade bath fan and was never and will never be quiet. On my old units the bearings had worn out so there was vibration and increased noise. So for me the new units decreased the noise. If you are replacing thinking that your fans will quietly hum along, you will be disappointed. The only way to get quiet is to rip out the 688 and replace with more expensive, quieter unit and the size and length of your exhaust duct will also affect noise.

This is the exact part I needed to replace a bathroom fan vent that was rusting out, and had failed after 23 years of use. Fits like a glove. Installation was a breeze, taking less than two minutes, and the fan is back up and running with nothing more than a step ladder and a flathead screwdriver. The new fan/motor design does increase the noise level over my original fan. There is a distinct high pitched hum produced, likely due to the new (cheaper) fan shroud design. With that said, it seems to move about the same amount of air, and it spins in a stable manner. Installation is simple. Make sure the switch to the fan is off, or turn power off to the bathroom. Unplug the fan motor from the NEMA receptacle (like a lamp). Press against the housing where the center tab is to disengage it. You may need to push up slightly on the fan to help free it, and also use a flathead screwdriver to assist with leveraging the fan housing out a bit. Once the tab disengages, grip the fan and pull it out of the housing. Check the fan's damper once the motor and fan are removed to ensure it continues to open and close freely, and it isn't broken. Installation is performed in reverse. Use the flathead screwdriver to assist with engaging the locking tabs, just in case your fan housing is a bit tight. As a pro tip: If you happen to get fingerprints or smudges on your ceiling, a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser will do wonders to clean your ceiling. I'd recommend having one handy to help clean up afterwards.

Perfect replacement for my NuTone fan

My house was built in 2003 and has two bathrooms. One of my original fans was making noise indicating a bad bearing. I figured I should replace both original fans at the same time, so I bought two of these fans 1.5 years ago. The fans were exact matches for my original fans. Installation was very easy. All of the brackets and hardware matched. I didn't even have to turn off my circuit breaker; the original fans simply unplug, and these new fans just plug in. Of course, if you don't have an outlet inside your fan box in your ceiling like I do, you will have to turn off your circuit breaker and hardwire the new fan in. After 1.5 years, these new fans are still working well. They are quiet and move air well.

This was purchased to replace a fan that was 20 years old. Great fit but it is louder than the more expensive fans. The replacement was easy but the fan is louder than I like, but still quieter than the old one. What can a person expect for $30 instead of spending $150 for a quieter one.

Replaced the fan assembly that appears to have been in the ceiling since the Jurrasic Period. That old assembly said "Patent Pending" whereas the new one says "US and Foreign Patents", so that gives you an idea how old the orginal was. Even with this age difference, the new assembly was an exact fit, dropped right in (it has two small tabs that fit into slots in the housing and you just push up the other side until the tab on that side pops into its slot) and worked great. I measured the unit at about 7 1/8" aby 7 1/4", and in comparing it to the original, side-by-side, it was a dimensional match. That actual fan sound is louder, at 3.2 sones, than the original one, which states 2.0 sones on the plate. But the old one sounded like an aircraft on takeoff that was about to lose fan blades, as it had not aged gracefully. Even so, the louder sound is fine, and gives users of the bathroom extra "privacy" in that bathroon which is off the living room hallway. Considered buying just the motor/fan but opted to get the whole unit. Glad I did; it's more expensive this way, but simple to install. Recommend the unit.
