The manual for stock riches
For last 25 years this book is considered accessible manual for individual investors to make money in stock market. Lynch has categorized the stock investing into various categories and then discussed how you assess stocks in each category, what you look for, what precautions you must take etc. Lynch is known for promoting concept of mult- bagger. The stocks that go up and up and make you multiples of your investment. He says even one or two such stocks in small investor's portfolio can be game changer for a person. One such success can mask failure on other stocks. Makes intuitive sense but how do you do it reliably? Lynch wants small investor to pay attention to his immediate environment and try to detect (early of course) pockets of excellence when they interact with firms/products/people. Identify the companies that are small but can grow explosively in coming years. Although sound this advice has been misused by investors to chase high growth stories at higher prices. That is why Lynch advises the readers to not to over-pay for any stock however fantastic its prospects are. That is growth at reasonable price (GARP). And never ever buy hot stock in the current hot sector. He advises us to look for boring, neglected, small companies with excellent prospects and invest in them before they are discovered by the Street. This is an excellent book for some one who is starting out in stock investing. But it is also great manual for more experienced users to brush up the concepts again and again. This is my second copy. One bought many years ago is in tattered state now. I would recommend this book to all stock investors. I know individual investors in India who have made Crores using the concepts given in this book. Lynch was one of the great investors of all time and he retired at age 46 to manage his own money and travel around the world. The simple but commonsense investing principles espoused in this great book are timeless and will always work...even 50 years from now. Hence this book is now rightly considered by serious investors as an investing classic.

great comprehension with a lot of examples. it gives you great insights on how you view stock markets. The only thing is that the examples are quite old which conceptually still hold true but might be difficult to comprehend

Yes you can beat the street
Peter Lynch said about his good and bad experiences in picking stocks. He explained the constraints of huge mutual fund manager and thereby how he misses some of the best investing opportunities. As an individual investor need not face the constraints faced by a fund manager which are imposed be SEC. He has got all the freedom and time in the world. But then how to find a three bagger or a ten bagger firm, company or industry? Peter Lynch gave his personal experiences in finding out these multi baggers with real figures and time frames. Throughout the book he gave numerous examples how an individual or a small investor can find about the firms by looking around his home, office and in a nearby shopping mall. He gave number of examples how an individual investor makes common and silly mistakes in investing his hard earned money and thereby looses it. He describes with examples how this small investor will get excited by listening to his stock adviser and others in investing and looses his money. By simple rules he classified listed firms and explained how to study them, how much to invest, when to buy and sell and how to stay invested and how long the investor have to wait to get his expected returns. The facts are explained with charts and tables right from 1920 to 2000.At the end of the chapter the summary is given in bullet points. He cautioned about futures and options and explained how an individual investor and also big fund managers are loosing money. He gave his method of selecting a promising firm and get benefit before the market or stock brokers find it, which I liked it. This book is for an individual and small investors who can surely get benefit by following his advice and caution.
