That depend on what is recommended by the manufacturer of the vehicle, usually this information is available in the vehicle owner's manual. I am not sure about the viscosity grade of transmission oil for the 1990 Miata, but this should be shown in the owner's manual, and if you do not have yours it should be easily verified through the many Miata related forums.
