Contour Shuttle Xpress - Multimedia Controller Ergonomic Jog Dial for Video Music Image Editor, USB Multimedia Controller for PC & Mac, 5 programmable Buttons, 7 Speed Jog Ring - Black

I bought this to use as a control surface for my ham radio remote station setup, not for photo or video editing, and it has worked very well. My setup uses wfview for radio control, and I mapped the Shuttle buttons inside wfview for common radio functions. It makes the remote operating experience feel much more natural than clicking around with a mouse for everything. The buttons are easy to reach, and the small size is a major plus. It takes up very little desk space and would pack easily into a backpack or laptop bag for operating on the go. The shuttle/jog control is useful, though I do wish there were more adjustment options for the jog wheel in my use case. It works, but for ham radio it would be especially nice to have finer control options for things like RIT or tuning step behavior. Overall, this is a solid option if you are using software-based radio control and want some physical controls back on the desk. It may be marketed mostly toward editing workflows, but it can be very useful for amateur radio as well.

I don't know if this is only in concern to the mac, but this thing has an awful track record, and the company has awful support. You have to trick the thing into working, and all the tutorials and trouble shooting are outdated, even though some of them came out within a month. They need a big-time overhaul of the drivers, and a rethink about the software entirely. When it works, it works well, but seriously, that's about 10% of the time.

I bought Logitech Trackman Marble Mouse a few weeks back and was dissatisfied with the lack of a scroll wheel. I bought the Shuttle Xpress primarily to function as a scroll wheel for typical use. I started using it to the left of my keyboard so I could use my right hand on the mouse. So far I couldn't be happier with it. For many applications I use it simply as a scroll wheel, much like a typical mouse has, with the Jog being line-by-line scroll and the shuttle being fast scroll. At first I was afraid that using two hands instead of one for simple navigation would pose a problem, but the opposite has turned out to be true. By binding several of the most common keyboard tasks to the shuttle Xpress, navigation is actually faster. The software is pretty robust. The shuttle dial has 7 increments in both directions. Each of these increments can be programmed much like a button. The Jog dial is essentially the same as a scroll wheel on a mouse. There are 5 buttons, each can be assigned as a modifier key (control, shift, etc.), a combination of keys, or a special function and this action can be repeated at specified intervals. This isn't as flexible as some macro key pads are, which often allow for timed key combinations, but it's plenty for typical applications. For specific applications the shuttle Xpress is extremely convenient. I do a lot of simple video editing and video analysis, and being able to efficiently navigate frame-by-frame, fast forward, and rewind is amazing. Having a jog & shuttle dial is a huge improvement over the mouse and keyboard setup I normally use. It is great for recreational playback of video as well. I haven't gotten the chance yet to test it in all of my computer tasks, but when I do I will update my review. I think you could make this device useful for nearly any task, the problem is that it requires some creativity on the part of the user to decide what the bindings should be. Basically, don't expect this to be a install-and-done sort of device, it will take some tweaking.

Just received this, good price in a market full of way-overpriced devices. Seems to work ok on my Mac but not fully tested yet. Right off, the included manual is out-of-date: the user forum URL does not exist. Instructions are a bit unclear, so more work to do for me there. And, online, the preset Mac Shuttle settings for Adobe are spelled "Adope", which does not give me confidence these people are much into details and quality control. Doesn't have any presets for OBS studio. Wish the programmable buttons were different colors or had numbers instead of being all identical black rectangles, but, I guess you get what you pay for. However, these are only preliminary thoughts.

Product is as advertised. I bought the Shuttle Express to travel, since carrying the DVR Speed Editor, which btw I love, was always bulky and a bit heavy. Not to mention every airport security scan kept asking what it did and how was it used. The key to set up of the Shuttle Express must be followed, the included direction are a bit lacking. Watch one or two YouTube videos and do NOT plug the Express into your computer until you are told to so. Step 1 download driver for Contour Shuttle Pro/Express. Step 2 install driver and reboot. Step 3 open Contour Control panel and then plug in the Express. This is where most of the YT videos fail, they show the Contour Shuttle Pro yet you are trying to setup the Shuttle Express. Step 4 understand there are multiple use levels for the hardware. Level 1 is focused on items on the laptop screen, think browser or Photoshop. Level 2 focus by choosing which software, had to search DaVinci Resolve then select it then figure out what control settings I needed for the five buttons on the Express and what the outer ring wheel should do versus the preprogrammed settings. Once that was all configured to mimic my most used Speed Editor keys the Express worked like a charm. Am very happy with its function and its intended editing use when traveling. Am glad I purchased this hardware, and would buy it again.

I owned one of these on a much older Mac and LOVED it until it broke 10 years later. I'm now buying one again for a 2017 Macbook Pro (running 10.13) for use with Adobe Premiere. After nearly 15 years, this Shuttle looks and feels the same but there's no real point in fixing what's not broken. The layout of the buttons is perfect for one-hand operation, making it easy to memorize the button placement quickly and speed up editing without having to look at the device. The top 3 buttons actually have indents for your finger tips to rest on so you can constantly feel where your hand is in relation to the device. The center dial has a rubber coating for better grip and it's very responsive to gradual increases in fast forward and reverse, plus it returns to center each time. The inside jog wheel is a lifesaver for finding the perfect frame to cut on, one of the most annoying things for me when just using a mouse. For some users on Mac or PC, the features my be plug and play, but newer operating systems and/or apps may need additional set-up since the Shuttle Driver isn't always revised as quickly as the apps it uses and they won't "talk" to each other. You'll see on the company's tech support forums, newer Mac users (2017-) may have to tweak some Shuttle settings in order to "teach" your Mac how to "see" the device and read the apps you're trying to use with it. None of it is very difficult for an average computer user if you know the steps. The common problem on the forum for Mac users is a recent security protocol where Apple will try to block the app during the install as a safety precaution, but that's an easy fix with a few button presses. My biggest issue was the Shuttle Driver not connecting with Adobe Premiere, in fact, the Shuttle Driver didn't even recognize that it was installed on my computer, despite it "seeing" all the other Adobe apps. With the gracious help from their tech support (less than 24 hour response) they helped me get the rest of the way there. If you find that one particular Adobe app isn't working, you can select the closest app name from the list on the Driver and then follow the "Settings" (gear) button at the bottom. Choose "Copy to new settings" and then find and select the app from your folders. Restart the computer and you should be set! I'm giving it 4 stars simply because of the extra steps needed to "force" the Shuttle to work with some set-ups.

I purchased the Contour ShuttleXpress 3D in the hopes of being able to do "old school" jog shuttle type video playback for my son's pee wee football team. I record the games in high definition, then head to "Titans Tower" (our little football field house) and plug in my laptop to the big Sharp Aquos LCD TV. At first, I was a little disappointed because I had hoped it would "just work" out of the box with Windows Media Player. But this device isn't quite like that. What this thing does is "map" certain functions (button presses, shuttle wheel movements, etc) to keyboard buttons. Since Windows Media Player doesn't really have much in the way of flexible keyboard interaction, this wheel can't do much. Then I installed the Combined Community Codec Pack which came with Media Player Classic. Now THAT is a powerful application. I was able to configure the FFDSHOW video codec to remove interlacing at runtime making the picture silky smooth and sharp (in High Def). I was also to use the Contour Shuttle Device Management software to create myself a custom profile based on the extensive Media Player Classic key functions. This allowed me to progress frame by frame by spinning the shuttle forward. Super slow, fast, it didn't matter. The faster I moved my finger around in a circle on the Contour Shuttle, the faster the video would play. The coaches were floored. No more messing with DVD player buttons and going to far or not far enough. I could use one button to "play" in real time. Then when I start moving the shuttle wheel forward, it immediately transitions to frame by frame mode. If I move the wheel backwards, it skips backwards 5 seconds. Perfect for replaying football plays. This thing made our film nights at least an order of magnitude more productive. My son's coach is also the president of the 250+ player football club and he paid me a very nice compliment at the end of season banquet. He said, "We have the best film guy in the entire tri-county football league." That was very gracious of him to say. But for me, it was just important that my son could learn better from the film nights because we could show things like precise positioning, point of impact, and how certain holes develop during blocking schemes. Very powerful stuff. I'm convinced that our kids had an advantage by being able to learn much more effectively on film nights. Bottom line: This device does EXACTLY what it says it does, at least in my case. The key is that you need to take the time to properly research and configure a custom profile and for many applications, there is already a profile available for you. Buy this thing! You won't be disappointed!

I'm trying to use this on Windows 11. I have used one in the past, in my old job, and I decided to get one for home use. When you plug it in, windows recognizes it and it will do a couple of default functions (Forward and reverse with the jog wheel). All good so far, right? I install the Contour driver, reboot and try to configure it. 1. First issue, the config interface won't launch from the systray. It's there, and mousing over shows the shuttle, but nothing happens. 2. So I launch the interface from the start menu. It opens and recognizes that the shuttle is present. I can edit keys and apply them, but they have no effect, neither globally or for a specific app. 3. I go to the support website and find info, but it is all years old. The interface shown in the tutorials looks like it's from Win7, and nothing like what the app actually has. It's all useless for the current app. I uninstall/reinstall multiple times, I check all my drivers (I use DriverEasy, its good). I try compatibility settings and grant it admin authority. Nothing helps. I search the web and find that many people have the same experience, but no fix. So far it's a sad waste of money, but I will keep trying and report back if I have success.

I bougth this specially for a ham radio setup remote control. It works super.

Impossible à installer sur une Surface Pro 7... Pourtant je peux y faire tourner sans problème une 3D Connexion ? Bref essayé sur 2 ordinateurs différents dont un super puissant, récent mais rien n'y fait. Pilote installé avec d'installer le périphérique mais ça ne change rien au final. Parfois ça fait monter et descendre le son ! Mais jamais rien d'autre ! Quant aux explications y compris en vidéo elles ne servent à rien il s'agit de pilote datant d'au moins 10 ans ! Bref on renvoi !

Después de 10 años de uso solo puedo decir cosas buenas. Funcionaba en Win 7 y sigue funcionando en Win 11. Totalmente programable para cada aplicación. Imprescindible para edicion de audio/video. En 2014 ma hbía costado 39€, veo que casi ha duplicado el precio.
