Very good quality Japanese product worth the money unlike Chinese toy's. Carefully designed parts. Received in good condition. Good quality plastic and rubber parts.

組み立てに１時間1０分程かかりました。 タミヤの製品だけあって、確りとした製品でした。 感心したのは、電池ケースやスイッチです。 精度が良くて接触不良も無く、いかにも日本製らしい作りです。 コツは、配線を確りと絡め配線をするか、腕に覚えのお有りの方は 半田付けが良いです。 ３歳の男の子に作り与えましたが、スピードが遅いのと、 走破性に優れていて、良く遊んでおります。 そのうち牽引用の台車とかを作ろうと思います。

Great kit, and fun to assemble. *Note: Most things in this kit have to be assembled, including the forward/reverse switch!!* The kit arrived super early, three weeks ahead of schedule too. Bonus!!

All mounting holes are pre drilled in the wooden platform, comes with extra orange wheels, gears, and track peaces, allowing for some reconfiguration of the vehicle. Axle length (with) seems to be the limiting factor in moving platforms with the stock parts. The 2AA battery pack comes with a switch that allows the the motor to go "forward" or "reverse". Aside from the vehicle itself, the gear box and switch require assembly. I Recommend the Tamiya 70097 twin motor (also found on Amazon) this allows for independent track control, (spinning, turning, more torque) the 70097 is basically two stock engines and gearboxes side by side with a split axle, it also requires assembly. The width of the platform is slightly larger than a Raspberry PI Model B so a Pi will fit between the tracks. SainSmart L298N Dual H Bridge Stepper Motor controller (also found on Amazon) is suitable for interfacing between a PI and the 70097 motors. It also have a dedicated 5 V output that may be sufficient for powering a Model A Pi, but I've not tried it. Instead I've used two "LM2596 Buck DC-DC Adjustable Step Down Power Supply Modules" (again from Amazon) one for the motors and one for the PI, (one LM2596 was not sufficient as motor start up would cause the power to drop to low and the PI to reboot). I'm using 8 2AA batteries to power the motors, PI and sensors. This has resulted in the vehicle to be rather heavy (1lb 12oz). Motors + gearboxes seem to have allot of torque I would recommend super gluing the toothed peaces onto the drive shafts / axles to keep them from rounding out in their holes when a track gets stuck.

I too would love a model that was built for the twin gear box (A must have accessory). Elliot Williams has a great webcast on moving from Arduino and Sketch to programming AVRs in C on a breadboard. Worth checking out if you want to miniaturise your set up.
