Wellco Enterprises was founded in 1941. Wellco's origins are rooted in the production of high-quality boots and shoes for law enforcement and the military. Today, the product line has been expanded to include work and uniform boots. No matter what the product, the philosophy of their company is the same: all of their boots and shoes are high-quality, durable, and comfortable. Review: GREAT MILITARY BOOT FOR NON-MILITARY USE! - WELLCO MEN'S X-FORCE 8" TACTICAL LIGHTWEIGHT DESERT COMBAT BOOT My husband is an Army National Guard vet and loves his combat boots! He has always wanted a pair of desert boots and decided to try these. They are very well constructed, padded on the inside where you need it most, they are very light-weight, and are becoming more comfortable to wear with each continued use. Another plus is the fact the insoles are removable. Granted, they are being used for non-military wear, but should give many years of enjoyable use and make him proud to wear the same type of boot our forces wear in Middle East. Sizing runs very true and it appears they would be comfortable and cool even in the hottest environment. These boots look good with jeans or camo for a great casual look. And they are a great value for the money! The only decision he has regarding these boots is whether to buy another pair for fear one day they won't be available for purchase. My hubby highly recommends getting a pair of these boots for any military buff or vet or just for the pure pleasure and comfort and, of course, knowing how good you look in these boots! Thank you. Pam Review: Not to bad. - They came in on time, they felt smaller once you put them on. The quality was ok.

Comfortable and stable fit, sturdy construction
I've owned many Wellco boots over the years but this is only my second pair of 'new style' desert/warm weather boots. Old style military/duty boots tend to have little to no ankle support while the new generation of tactical boots feature padded shafts and tongues reinforced with plastic, rubber, or webbing. I bought these Wellco X-4orce boots after buying the Wellco Spartan boots, another new tactical model. (See my review of the Spartans under that product page.) I have a wide foot and my 12-wide boots fit very comfortably. They are wide at the forefoot where I need the width but the heel area holds my heel without being too tight. I have a big 'knuckle' on the big toe of my right foot and some boots are uncomfortable across the top surface of my right foot, at least until they break in. These X-4orce boots are comfortable across the top of my foot even when laced firmly. The shaft is comfortably padded, the tread seems to be just grippy enough to give me good traction off-road without feeling slippery or overly grippy on concrete or carpet. The insole is cushioned but firm and these boots feel like a broken-in pair of sneakers. If I had to choose, I would probably choose the X-4orce over the Spartan because the X-4orce seems to be more comfortable out of the box, but the Spartans are certainly a well-made model of boot. NOTE: The Spartans have vented air/drainage holes at the instep and the X-4orce do not. I live in a very dry climate with temperate weather most of the year so I can wear either three seasons but if drainage hole are important to you, you will not find any on the X-4orce.

Eyelet failed in less than a week
I really liked these boots at first! Great looking boot, very comfortable, but pretty useless since one of the eyelets fell out in less than a week of wearing around town. Obviously defective, like most everything Made in China. Also, I'm down about fifteen bucks after having first returned the pair that was 2.5 sizes larger than ordered, then returning the correct size that was defective. Really sorry these didn't work out.

I'm hoping they get better after break-in
The following is only my first impression. I've served in the military and have worn boots all my life so I know it's a little unfair to judge a boot too quickly, but... There's a ton of vertical wiggle room in the toe area. I can easily curl every one of my toes, or cross my big and long toes. While that may sound good, it's just not normal. I've never had a boot with this much room in the toes, top to bottom. Even after putting in a gelled insole there is a little too much wiggle room to call it perfect, but it's not a big deal. As-is though I'd give that portion of the boot 3 stars. 4 with an insert. They also seem to run close to a size too big in length. These 12's fit more like 13's, but again, with thick socks and insoles they're closer to satisfactory than not. They're close enough to where I don't wish to return them for a smaller size, but if I were to order another pair I would definitely go down a half a size; and yes that's even after the gel insert and socks. I only have one big complaint and that's the way the toe curls. The crease that's created while walking, where the toes bend up... it digs into me pretty good on the top of where my toes meet my feet. I'm hoping that once they're broken in this won't be an issue, but for right now I'd have to say they dig in worse than any boot I've had other than this one cheap pair of Walmart steel-toed. They might even rub me raw before they get broken in. As I walk around in them I'm really questioning if I should return them or not, but my gut tells me to wait until I break them in because this boot, as a whole, is outstanding. For the most part they already feel more like sneakers than boots. They are very light and from the heel on upwards they are the most comfortable boot I've ever worn. I love the tread pattern and can tell they will have superior all-terrain grip. The rubber soles are also relatively soft and I'm sure they will grip on wet surfaces just as well. Being soft, light, cushioned and comfortable I have no doubt these can be worn day in and day out without complaint. I feel they are the perfect height. I'm also fairly confident, judging by its apparent quality, that these boots will last quite some time. The only parts that aren't double-stitched are the lace eyelets and that's probably because there wasn't enough area to do so.

Great boot right out of the box.
I took the boots out of the box tried them on to see if they fit ok, they seemed like a good fit so, I put them back in the box, tossed them into the camp trailer with my old pair of boots and two days latter left for a two week Chukar hunt near the Owyhee reservoir in Eastern Oregon. If you know anything about Chukar hunting, you know you need a good pair of boots to protect your feet from sharp rock and be light and supple enough to hunt for the day without becoming foot weary. Not enough birds for the amount of hiking and rock climbing we did. But the boots out preformed my expectations, I never needed to use my old boots my new boots were tip/top from the get-go, the only time I took them off was when I hit the sack at night and even then I would slip them on when I needed to step out to answer nature's call in the middle of the night. I would recommend these boots to anyone who wants a good solid lightweight hunting boot. You won't be sorry!

OMG
Holy Crap. That's all I'm able to say about this boot. Don't do what I did, order your actual size. These boots are THE BEST pair of boots I've ever owned. Not only is it impossible to roll your ankle in them, they have the most amazing arc and heel supports I've ever seen. Ever. Never had I had a boot this amazing straight of the box. It is a little uncomfortable once you wear it for the first time, but in 2-3 days of wearing it all day, it makes it all worth it. They don't lie when they say there are supports in the boots. Other than the toe area, everything is completely surround by this boot. And the toes, the toe are has so much room. I know it sounds weird when I say that, but you literally have enough room to where you can raise all of your toes up, but because of the padding all around the rest of your leg/foot, your foot doesn't move and the area is very roomy and quite perfect. (for when you have that one itch on the top of your big toe) OpticsPlanet definitely thought of "everything" there is to think of when it comes to the boot. Now, quit wasting your time reading these reviews, and but the damn things already!!!!!!!
