Use your alchemic abilities to escape the island in this brutally challenging 2D action-platformer with no checkpoints. Youโll get betterโฆ eventually. Dead Cells puts you in control of a failed alchemic experiment trying to figure out what's happening on a sprawling, ever-changing and seemingly cursed Island. Tough but fair combat, responsive controls, challenging foes, permadeath and of course, the emergency panic roll to get you out of trouble, make for a demanding, visceral and cathartic action game. Experience a Roguevania, mixing an interconnected world, branching paths and unlockable skills with the constant adrenaline-pumping threat of permadeath. No checkpoints. You either vanquish the final boss in one go, or you try again. However, you keep some of your progress for successive runs; new paths youโve unlocked, access to new levels, mutations, abilities and weapons. Speaking of weapons, Dead Cells features a plethora of ways to slay your enemies. A large variety of swords, bows and of course spells, but also whips, grenades and turrets, each one with its own unique twist. Plus, mutations and scrolls allow you to build and customize your character differently with each and every run. At the end of the day though, itโs YOUR skills as a player that matter most! Roguelites are about constantly sharpening your skills, until what was an insurmountable obstacle becomes a walk in the park. Patience, youโll get better!โฆ eventually. Review: This game deserves so much kudos - I have Dead Cells on Steam and all of my computers, as well as my Switch now, and as soon as it comes out on Android I'll have it there too. This game literally reminds me of what it felt like to play Super Mario Bros the first time on my Nintendo Christmas morning. (yeah, I'm that old) The gameplay is soo buttery smooth, I mean there are no hiccups or stuttering, it's a masterclass in framerate consistency. The other two pieces that lend to a fantastic gameplay experience are the tight controls, and the heavy feeling of a weapons hit when you make contact with an enemy. The controls never feel laggy, it is very intuitive to play. (I would say one hint is to remap your roll to a shoulder button so that you can always have one finger on the button ready to roll at anytime). When you land a hit on an opponent there is a combination of sound and almost like a screen shake that makes the hit feel so much harder, it's a wonderful thing to see when you play. The first few times I played it I got killed almost immediately. I had forgotten my days with Super Mario and have just gotten used to expansive health bars and checkpoints and lives. It took me a few days to get back in that mindset of avoiding damage wherever possible, and even longer just to get through the first map. I'm still unlocking things but I love this game. If you have a penchant for abuse, and that "just one more run" mentality, get this game, do not hesitate. One of the best games you can buy for the Switch, or steam for that matter. Review: Buy this game - It's crazy to think that a lot of games that cost over twice as much can't deliver nearly as much as Dead Cells does. I bought this game on Steam at first and fell in love with it. It doesn't get boring and is so challenging that it keeps you coming back for more. Such a great game. Once I saw Dead Cells was on the Switch, I knew I would end up getting it for the platform. It just seems so perfect for the Switch. I recommended it to my roommate and he loves it as well. Now we both own two copies of the game. I have it on my PC and now the Switch and he has it on his Switch and Xbox. 5/5 stars all day, every day.

Can't recomend enough!
I cant stop playing this game. It strikes the right balance of difficulty to reward. I am really looking forward to beating this game and playing it over and over and over again. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a game that doesn't conform to most other game styles. The basic idea of the game is that you have "1" life that you need to beat the game in, and that if you die, you start back at the beginning, but you can still keep some of the upgrades that you've obtained. It's not as frustrating as it sounds though. I know I'm overly simplifying the concept, but it's hard to describe.

Best game in years.
This is the most fun, most addicting, freaking awesome game made in years. Even after purchasing other games, I can hardly break away from Dead Cells long enough to check it out. "OK just ONE more run and then I'll check out something new...." "Well crap that run was awful, just one more!"

4 Stars
A lot of fun

High replay value/poor price
Would have given it more stars because it has a proper challenge and fun factor to it but there is a DLC that they make you pay for to a game that's already very old.

Great game. Difficult, but rewarding.
I got this on the PS4 at first, but when I purchased my switch last week, I had to pick up the handheld version. It fits the switch nicely, and the gameplay / visuals / audio is spot on with the console version. I highly recommend this game if you're a fan of old school side scrollers, and are a fan of the SoulsBorne type games.
