Is there a max speed & capacity? 256gb, 2200mb/s works but not 1tb, 3500mb/s nvme.

no capacity limited, but there is speed limit, M.2 A/E key is PCIe 1x band,so it is max PCIe 1X speed,it is mainly according to your device. best regards sintech cn

Is this compatible with a gen 4 ssd?

it can support Gen 4 SSD,but the speed will be Max PCIe 3.0 X1 speed. best regards sintech.cn

I understand this is x1 pci-e, but what version of pci-e? 1.0, 2.0 ...

it support PCIe 3.0 ,normaly nvme SSD is PCIe 3.0. best regards sintech cn

Will this works for dell wyze 5070 ext thin client? Have to install nvme 1tb ssd.I'd appreciate if somebody out there already tried it and let me know

If you have a wifi slot I'd go for yes. On my Lenovo this adapter worked 99% of the time. It would sometimes just go offline which was unacceptable so I finally ditched it. Could have been the WIFI slot circuitry. I'm not sure about your Dell Wyse.
