Will this work on salt (ocean) water (not continuously submerged)?

Depends on the tds level of the water. This meter only goes up to 1000 ppm. If the water is higher than that it won’t read it correctly

Can this be left submerged permanently?

If you talk about the sensor itself, I would say yes. Depends a bit on the salinity of the fluid you are measuring. Sea water will destroy everything given enough time. Potable water should be OK.

Can i use this sensor an esp32 board? the example code is for arduino uno

Yes it works just fine with an ESP 32. the example code works as well for the esp 32

Does this come with any calibration solutions or what is recommended for calibration?

it does not. Also, it only reads up to 1000ppm, so its ok for water quality testing, but not hydroponics nutrient solution. you can buy calibration solution on amazon

You can use this sensor to measure the TDS value of your water, i.e. total amounts of various solids in the water
The higher TDS value, the more impurities in the water. Impurities usually refer to the concentration of Ca2+, MG2+, Na+, K+ and other ions in water, and cannot directly indicate water quality. Therefore, too high TDS (600+) indicates poor water quality, but lower TDS the better the water quality
The sensor has four 3.2mm fixed holes for easy mounting to other equipment
