A Garden Staple I’ve Used for Over 10 Years — Don’t Grow Plants Without It
I’m a very experienced hands-on homestead gardener and nursery operator, and Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 has been one of my core plant feeds for well over 10 years. I’ve used it on vegetables, herbs, fruiting plants, nursery stock, trees, container plants — literally hundreds and hundreds of plants — with consistently excellent results. This is one of those products I simply do not garden without. Why I keep using it: * Excellent gentle organic nitrogen source for steady growth * Promotes lush foliage, vigor, and strong plant health * Great for vegetables, herbs, fruiting plants, trees, and transplants * Especially useful for seedlings and plants needing a growth boost * Easy liquid feeding with fast visible response * Wonderful for supporting soil biology What I appreciate is that it feeds the plant and supports the soil food web. And for fully organic growers, a big plus: It has always been an organic favorite, and in recent years it is now officially OMRI listed, which matters to those of us committed to 100% organic growing. That makes it an even stronger recommendation for serious organic gardeners. Bonus tip: I often enhance it with a little blackstrap molasses, which can further support microbial activity and makes an already great feed even better. Results I’ve seen over many years: * Faster, greener growth * Stronger, healthier plants * Better recovery after transplanting * Excellent vegetative development * Overall more vigorous garden performance Small warning: Yes, it has a fishy smell when applied. That is normal. And in my experience the smell dissipates within a day, while the benefits last far longer. The short-term smell is a tiny tradeoff for what this product does. Bottom Line: This has been one of my most trusted garden inputs for over a decade. Proven, organic, effective, economical, and dependable. Don’t grow plants without it. Highly recommended and easy 5 stars.

High-Yield Organic Nitrogen for Vegetative Growth
For a high-leverage approach to organic gardening, the Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 is an excellent choice. It provides a specialized, nitrogen-rich boost that is particularly effective for the vegetative growth phase of your vegetables and the leafy development of indoor plants. Technical Performance Analysis Nutrient Profile: The 5-1-1 NPK ratio is heavily weighted toward nitrogen. This provides the "high-torque" energy needed for lush, green foliage and rapid stem development, making it a professional-grade supplement for early-season growth. OMRI Listed: Being OMRI listed ensures the product meets strict organic standards. For a user focused on high-quality food production, this provides a verified, chemical-free path to soil health. Cold-Processing: Unlike heat-processed emulsions, this formula uses a cold-press process that preserves the natural proteins and vitamins found in fish, ensuring the micronutrients remain bioavailable for the plant. Soil Microbes: In addition to feeding the plant, the organic matter acts as a fuel source for beneficial soil microorganisms, improving long-term soil structure and nutrient cycling efficiency. Ease of Use and Value for Money Efficiency: The liquid concentrate is designed for rapid integration. It can be applied via a watering can or a hose-end sprayer, allowing you to fertilize a large garden footprint in minutes. Value: This 115 oz container is a high-volume format that offers a significantly lower cost per application compared to smaller bottles. One gallon of concentrate produces dozens of gallons of ready-to-use feed. User Experience: While fish fertilizers are known for their scent, this deodorized formula dissipates quickly once watered into the soil, making it more manageable for those who value a clean workspace. Pros Organic OMRI certification for safe vegetable gardening. Rich in nitrogen for aggressive green growth. Deodorized formula reduces typical organic fertilizer odors. Cons Lower phosphorus and potassium levels mean you may need a supplement like Jack's Classic during the flowering or fruiting stage.

Excellent Organic Boost for Plants
I’ve been using the Alaska Fish Fertilizer (5-1-1) for a couple of months now, and it’s become a staple in my gardening routine. If you're looking for an organic, OMRI-listed fertilizer that gives noticeable results without synthetic chemicals, this is an excellent choice. I use it primarily on vegetables, herbs, and a few fruiting plants like tomatoes and peppers. After the first few applications, I noticed stronger stems, more vibrant leaf color, and faster overall growth. My tomato plants, in particular, responded extremely well—they went from a slow crawl to producing blossoms within a week or two of feeding. It’s also done wonders for basil, cucumbers, and even some of my flower beds. Application is straightforward—just mix with water according to the instructions. The only caveat, as others have mentioned, is the fishy odor. It’s not overpowering if you dilute it properly and apply it during cooler parts of the day, but don’t expect it to smell like roses. Fortunately, the smell dissipates quickly and hasn’t attracted pests or caused any lingering issues in my garden. The 115 oz bottle is a good value for the size—especially if you have a larger garden or plan to fertilize multiple times during the growing season. I like that it’s safe to use around pets and kids once it’s watered in. Overall, this is a high-performing, trustworthy product that delivers what it promises. Just hold your nose and enjoy the results!

Works
Great stuff. This catches the nitrogen well and if paired with the bloom stuff, it catches all the needs. Organic as heck which is awesome bit it smells yucky. I use a combo of this with my RO water, the bloom stuff, aerobic injection through a compost bag, blackstrap molasses and pH adjust to feed many plants on my automatic system. Definitely lowers the pH drastically. Doesn't help bloom, it helps veg growth. Get the mora bloom fish fertilizer for making fruit, veggies or blooms. Get this to make the plants grow.

Alaska fish fertilizer
Alaska fish fertilizer is one of the best fertilizers you can buy. Glad to find this on their spring sale because it is becoming insanely expensive at retail stores. Absolutely love this product in my veggie garden. Cant say enough good things about it. It does stink to high heaven though so just be aware it will draw in flys, but its so worth it!
