ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Cable Gen 2

I needed this because the refurbished ThinkPad laptop I recently purchased had a non-standard ethernet socket. Apparently this was so the case could be made thinner. This cheap adaptor has solved the problem but I have needed to tape the conventional ethernet plug to the adaptor socket because it kept falling out. I think this was a problem with the ethernet cable, not the adaptor, so I give the adaptor a score of 5.

I bought this to improve the laptop's Internet connection, as the office WiFi can be a bit unreliable. It was fiddly to fit as it feels like the connector will go in either way, but actually it doesn't. You have to look closely to make sure it is the right way round. Once in, it is fairly secure, but there is no latch, so it could pull out. Other than that, it does the job well. Too soon to judge reliability... it's still working!

When using this you cannot use the USB port that sits next to it(Unless you melt the side of it. Maybe it could be made as a joint connector, so plugs into both sockets at the same time and has the USB port on the side of the Ethernet box?

For those that don’t know what this is… Its an Ethernet break out adapter that plugs into 1 of side docking connectors on modern generation Lenovo Thinkpads such as the P43s, P14S etc…. The docking connector on these consists of USB C and a dedicated Ethernet on some proprietary connector. This adapter lets you connect to that proprietary socket and get an Ethernet interface.

This is a correct dongle for Carbon X1 6th generation. Shipping was extremely fast and item works well. If you are installing it in new Carbon X1 you need to remove plastic tab that covers the port on the laptop.

When you have multiple items plugged into the thinkpad, there is not a great deal of room to attach this extension. I had shave plastic off the sides of the plug /jack to fit it into the Ethernet port along side the jacks for the other devices. That said it still works as I wanted (ie avoiding use of our wifi network).

Es gibt auch heute noch überholte Modelle mit 100 MB Leistung für die Übertragung, die angeboten werden, als ob es aktueller Standard der Entwicklung ist, was aber herausgeworfenes Geld ist. Da ist WLAN besser. Dieser Adapter überträgt wirklich 1000 MB und funktioniert einwandfrei.

I don't know why it says USB C, but the connector is the correct one and it works excellent.
