Tornado Wrestling Headgear

I have a wrestler background years back and started no-gi jiu jitsu a few weeks ago. A few triangles later I decided I really need headgear.Pros:1) VERY light. As light as the cheapie foam ones we used in HS.2) VERY comfortable. I've had the hardshell "turtle shell cups" and the cheapie foam ones. This combines the comfort of the foam ones (perhaps even better because this foam is squishier) with the protection of the hardshells. Slippage has been minimal for me, certainly less than the cheapie foams and a little less than the classic turtleshell cups. It's just a grippier foam that sticks to your head and it has more straps than a cheap foamie one. The foam chin strap is a nice touch.3) Hearing is excellent. Don't really have any difference between wearing it and not wearing it.4) Safe for my practice mate. It's a hardshell around the ears so it's protective, but it's not like any other hardshell I've used. It gives just enough when you push on it. So it's good for my partner and it's good for me cuz then you don't get the hardshell crushing your head or ear in the situations when it slips a little.5) Doesn't look horrible. Not like it's going to get you the ladeeyz (or boyz, whatever), but it's better than most. I got the all black one.Cons:1) Price. Yeah, it's definitely pricey. But yes, I do feel it's a world apart from lower level headgear and I'm glad I splurged.Also, I know someone mentioned that it gives more of a "handle" for people to grab and submit, but it hasn't been an issue for me at all. I'm a wrestler who shoots in and still use my head to help pivot the opponent and so I still get caught in a jillion guillotines and headlocks and triangles or whathaveyou. I've been able to slip out of them not much worse than without it. Just my personal experience.Overall: 9/10. I would prefer an extra strap running perpendicular to the other straps so it can protect my hair from getting caught even more than it already does, but that's a minor issue a lot of grapplers won't have (I have relatively long "fobby Asian-style hair).

I bought this for my 8 going on 9 yr old son. I was a little hesitant at first because it was an adult head gear, buy my son's head measurement were close to the max measurements for youth head gear. This head gear is GREAT! The foam padding around the ear piece prevents opposing wrestlers from getting a grip on the head gear. My son had a wrestler try to grab in a match and he was not able to do so due to the construction of the head gear. It has a double strap on the top which assures a secure fit and placement when competing. I have seen many kids who have other brands of gear and their head gear will slide around during a match and even slip off. The straps are adjustable which allows for head growth as your wrestler gets older. It has a padded chin strap with sturdy snaps on either side of the chin so it is good for left or right handers. The ear pieces are perforated and allow for air circulation as well as allowing the athlete to hear well. I strongly recommend this product for wrestling and preventing cauliflower ear.

Much easier to adjust than the other style. Also more ear room.

Has been very good. Most comfortable, stable, not over-warm, good for listening pair of headgear I've ever worn.There are three caveats, though:1. I did, once, put a nice red mark on a training partner's forehead (actually my instructor... a little embarrassing) with these guys on accident. Uh-oh. Still, that was only once, and I use these a LOT.2. The ear pieces are soft plastic, not hard, so they won't injure your partners (usually... see above). They have 'give' to them. But a few times, they have given so much that I could feel some pressure on my ear--not a small amount, a decent amount. This is rare, and has happened only a handful of times, and never enough to give cauli. But it's worth noting.3. The foam seems to be wearing kind of fast. I don't put it in the washer or dryer or anything, just rub it dry at the end of class--without any solvent, even. Just, the foam isn't holding up. I genuinely can't tell if it will hold up another few months or another few years.All that said, the experience of using them has definitely been my best of any pair of head gear out there. Given how miserable most other pairs of headgear are, it might be worth it even if these only last one year and I have to replace them. If your headgear lasts forever, but is so uncomfortable that you don't use it all the time, what's the point? This is headgear that I genuinely don't hesitate to throw on or feel reluctant to put on.And that's amazing, and worth a premium.

I started with a cheaper alternative because I thought I would only be using it for a week or so. Bad move. The cheaper one slid around and allowed the cups to pinch the area of cauliflower I had developed. I switched to the tornado. My large ears fit entirely in the cups, even with a bolster and stitches in place. Was easy to custom fit it to me, and then all I have to do is unsnap the chin start to put it on. Barely moves at all during hard BJJ, Judo and wrestling sessions.

Really Good head gear, pause.

I'm very happy with this headgear, overall. It was way more comfortable than I imagined it would be, and stays in place very well. My ears feel so safe and protected inside! It's also very easy to wash, being all plastic and foam. I just use soap and warm water after every class than leave it hanging in the shower to dry overnight. I've heard people say that harder plastic headgear such as this might hurt partner, but I haven't had a single complaint so far, and have had it 6 months already. It's also held up to regular training very well - no signs of damage, and I train at least 4x/week (usually 5) in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Bon produit, néanmoins les attaches sur l'arrière de la tête sont un peu courtes. Je pense qu'il ne faut pas avoir une trop grosse tête lol

Practico BJJ y me ha servido bastante, es muy cómodo y protege muy bien las orejas, igual los cordones son muy fáciles de ajustar. En cuanto a la talla, he probado el modelo youth y me quedó muy chico, éste me quedó perfecto. Las etiquetas con la marca en los costados se ven corrientes, pero es lo de menos.

I always hated sparring with ear guards but after my first cauliflower ear at 44 and multiple attempts to drain it, I knew I had to look for one. My old one was never comfortable and you couldn’t hear a thing. This one is totally different. You can hear and it doesn’t get too hot thanks to the ventilation slots. Sits very comfortably and gives you plenty of protection. Definitely worth a try.
