yes. plastic case with fitted holder that snaps shut. It is fine and protects from dust.

Can this be used for athletes ?

If your "athlete" is a dog or a cat then yes. This refractometer is for measuring Animal urine specific gravity, as stated in the product description. When viewing the urine specimen the graf is calibrated, with pictures, or a dog on left and a cat on the right. There can be seen in the pictures provided. Hope this helps.

Will this measure salt water?

No, it will not measure salt water.

How do you get the urine from a cat? : )

Very carefully! ;) Seriously, (if your question is real) we used a shallow overly large pan with just a little cat litter and managed to get a few samples. Our vet (who recommended the refractometer purchase) had recommended using aquarium gravel in place of litter (because it's nonabsorbent) but our cat wouldn't step on it.
