Excellant tool
Works good for a reference. None of my guns lined up exactly with the beam, but they were close. Once sighted in, make a note where the dot lines up with the scope cross hairs. This is what you want to see to check your sights later on to verify your sighting in point. As far as the batteries, do the old flashlight trick. Put one battery + up and the other one+ down and reinstall the cap. The light won't turn on until you put the batteries in correctly. This way the batteries can be stored in the light short term. Long term I store the batteries separately to prevent the possibility of corrosion.

Worth the price, saves on ammo
This product will get you close on bore sighting your scope. Will definitely cut down on the amount of rounds it will take to zero in your scope.

Effective
Picked this up to help signt in my new Tikka T3x chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I did note some of the play other reviews have mentioned, however when held in place by the bolt, this was not an issue. I was able to quickly get on paper so that I could move out to 100y and dial the scope in. I did remove one star for two things, however. First, and a fairly minor gripe, it is not available in green, which is easier to see when outdoors in a sunny environment. Secondly, and a bit more of a bummer, there is no way to turn it off other than removing the batteries, and since the batteries are rather small for obvious reasons, it is easy to lose them.

A very handy and useful method of roughing out a target bullseye.
The Sightmark bore sight worked flawlessly. It put the rifle on the target paper. Once I got to the range it was a small, but fun, matter to zero the fine adjustments on the scope. We're good to go! Every one should have one of these devices for their favorite calibers; they definitely work and do save time and ammo. And, they are easy to pack along if there is a further need. The price was nice too...

Must Have Boresight
I've tried several boresight systems from at least 6 manufacturers. Magnetic, muzzle, and in chamber. I've thrown out all of the magnetic, and muzzle boresighters. I've tried 2 different manufacturers of the in chamber boresighters. The Sightmark in chamber boresight lasers are by far the more accurate of the 2. The other brand made one initial caliber, and then sold sleeves for other calibers. Bad part of that was that half of the time the sleeve would get left in the chamber after boresighting, and I'd have to go fishing it out of the chamber. Sightmark doesn't do that.

Not a good fit for 6.5CM chamber
I bought this for a 6.5 Creedmoor, based on the advertisement that it is suitable for 22-250 and 6.5 Creedmoor. The first thing that I did was check the rounout of the laser dot at 10 yards while spinning it in a v-block, and it was pretty good. The dot traversed a circle of about 1" diameter at 10 yards. Next, I chambered it in my rifle, and it chambered fine, and aligned w/ the vertical line on my reticle pretty well, I then removed it, rotated it to a new position and rechambered, to find that the dot was way left of the reticle. I tried this a few times again and found that it was inconsistent each time it was chambered. I checked my chamber to make sure it was clean and free from debris/burrs, but then inserted the laser with my finger and noticed that is was a very loose fit in the chamber. This led me to compare the SAAMI specs for the 22-250 and 6.5CM, and I realized that the two cartridges have a different taper, shoulder angle, and headspace. This may be why it does not align repeatably in my chamber. I wish they made a dedicated 6.5CM chamber bore sight that was specifically made to fit the 6.5 Creedmoor chamber. I attached the SAMII drawings for the two cartridges so you can see how the bras dimensions differ. I imaging w/ the runout of the laser, and the loose fit in the chamber, it will only get you within a couple inches of your desired zero at 10 yards. If that is close enough for you, then this will work. I have other sightmark boresights (9mm, 223 Rem., and 12-Ga) that chamber far more consistently in their chambers than this one does in my 6.5CM.

Great.
What can I say. It does the job it was designed to do. It fits right and is excellent for getting the weapon on target. Great product.

Did not work for me
The unit's laser seemed to work fine when I inserted the batteries to test it. I shined it on a wall about 25 yards in front and could see it fine. So I quickly removed the batteries and set up my rifle to bore sight. Once set up, I placed the batteries back in the device and inserted it into the chamber. I gently snugged the rifle bolt up against it, but nothing was showing on the wall except for a faint half ring of red light about the size of the paper. It kind of looked like the light was reflecting off the inside of the barrel. I removed it and its batteries, double checked that my barrel was clean and free of any obstructions, checked to make sure the laser was still working, and I could again hold the laser in hand and see it fine on the wall. Once I placed it back in the chamber I had the same results. Just a faint half ring on the wall. Then, my batteries faded and quickly died. I might have had 5 total minutes of run time. The batteries are an odd kind that I could not find at my local big box stores. So I ended up just using my eyeball to bore sight. Unfortunately, it seems that my sightmark laser bore sight was a waste of money:-( I have not contacted customer support and was hoping they may contact me if they see this. They may have an easy solution, but I don't know.
