Victorinox Midnite Manager

This is a great knife for every day carry and I keep it on my keychain. The knife has the following functions: knife, bottle opener, wire stripper, phillips head screw driver, a scissor, a nail file, a flat head screw driver, a pen and a light. Overall, the knife is quite lightweight. In terms of the size of the red plastic part, the length is 5.8cm, the width is 1.3cm and the height is about 1.1cm. If you include the tools, the length is 5.9cm(the keychain part sticks out a bit), the width 1.9cm and the height stays the same. The knife blade is double edged and has a pointy tip. The flat part is about 2.7cm long before it starts to taper up. The total length of the cutting edge is about 3.3cm. There is a little triangular notch near the end of the cutting edge which I don't really see the use for, but it's there. If you hold the swiss army knife completely parallel to the ground, the knife will be slightly tapered down and point ever so slightly towards the ground. The bottle opener, while it works, is a bit on the small side. This means that if you want to open up a bottle, you would need to work around the bottle cap for a bit before you can pop it off. You cannot do it in one motion. The wire stripper has a diameter of about 2mm. The phillips screw driver is quite small and I use it a lot for opening up electronic devices. It isn't small enough for eyeglasses though. The longer of the edges that makes the cross is about 2.4mm On the other side of the knife, you can find the nail file. The area is basically 3cm by 0.5cm. I don't know exactly what grain it is, but I guess I would say its a coarse fine? I have definitely seen sand paper with finer grain compared to what is on this knife (the knife is obviously all metal) The flat edge screw driver is 2mm at its thinnest part and tapers up slightly to 3mm. The depth is about 3mm. If you are worried about going into a tight spot, you have about a 3.5cm reach (base of the flat head) due to it being at the end of the nail file. The thickest part of the nail file including the edge is 6mm so that would be the smallest diameter you need the long hole to be. The scissors are pretty self explanatory and work great for cutting nails. Opened up wide, the cutting edge is about 1.5cm long. Realistically though, with just the metal spring opening up the scissor, the cutting edge is only about 1.2cm long. The scissors are quite sharp and have a great cutting edge. That said, I wouldn't cut hard plastic with it since the handle is only 2cm long from the pivot point. The light is pretty dim and I only find use for it with finding the keyhole on a door. Do not expect to use it as a flashlight to walk around in the woods. I have a fenix ld01 (1 AAA battery and up to 80 lumens, but that's another for another review) for that which I definitely use more than the light on this knife. The battery is a button type battery and is quite exposed so I don't think this is waterproof. I haven't tested this though. You turn on the light by pressing the red shield on the side of the knife. The pen I think is pretty cool. It's a standard oil based pen and it has blue ink in it. If you flip the nail file out while you use this pen, it is actually quite comfortable. Replacing these is also quite simple. Just pull the pen out and insert another one in. I wouldn't use this as your main pen though. The reservoir is quite short, about 4cm, so I mainly use the pen in "emergencies". Overall though, I like this knife and use it a lot. It's convenience and lightweight is it's main selling point.

This knife has been perfect for my keychain. Its length is such that it fits in with the rest of my keys. Width and weight are reasonable. All the tools are very functional and useful. This is a great combination of them. LED is fairly bright, and good enough for most reasonable situations where you need light in the dark. It wont work all that great for a worklight or whatever, but good for not tripping over the toy in the floor when you turn the lights off, or finding that keyhole in the dark. You use a pin or similar to push into a little hole on the side which opens a secret door on the other side of it. Then you slide the battery into it. I actually had to look this up, because it wasn't well explained. Scissors are surprisingly useful. Most little ones are junk but these have worked quite well, even cutting zip-ties and such when opening amazon packages. The pen is extremely useful! Its not as usable as a standalone because you'd have to take the knife off the keychain for extended usage which is a pain. Note that you can open the phillips screwdriver to extend the length of the "pen" which makes it a bit easier to use. Phillips head/bottle opener is nice and thick. Good for getting into tighter locations such as a screw under a doorknob I tightened. You can open it halfway to 90degree angle and get a lot more torque on the screwdriver if needed. Don't overdo it, but this is an option. bottle opener works ok. All in all, very lightweight but sturdy and quite convenient. just dont forget to take it off when traveling by plane! Least till some of the more stupid provisions are removed...I belive there is some talk about allowing small utility knives.

No, Victorinox's keyring-sized Swiss Army Knives are not the sexiest players in the knife game, but they might actually get the most use in it. The small, discrete knives disappear in your pocket or on your keyring right up until the moment you need them, at which point they'll tackle jobs many times their apparent size. You're not going to skin an elk -- although the blade is sharp enough that you probably could, in a pinch -- but I've found it the perfect companion for the urban wilderness. This is my latest in a long line of EDC keychain knives. I lost the last one, a Midnite Minichamp, after foolishly forgetting to take it off my keyring before an encounter with the TSA security officers at the airport. This was its replacement. This may sound counterintuitive because the Midnite Manager has fewer implements, but I actually like it *better* than its predecessor. It has all the best features of the more expensive Minichamp -- pen blade, bottle opener, scissors, pen and flashlight -- as well as the nice-to-have emory board -- and none of the ones you don't need. The Minichamp's extra cutting blades are redundant; I never used its weird cuticle pusher and ruler. Of course it's not like the Minichamp was *that* much bigger and heavier, but here less definitely is more. If the Minichamp scored a 90, this one scores a 99. Why not a perfect score? These pen-and-battery-equipped Swiss Army Knives can't handle a trip through the washing machine like the traditional models with a toothpick and tweezers. (Sadly I speak from experience here too.) They're small enough that losing track can be a real problem, and if your knife goes through the laundry and you lose your battery and pen, you've lost a lot of your capability in a heartbeat. The pen module and battery are replaceable, though, so it's not the end of the world. Also, the overall daily utility of having a pen and a flashlight are much greater, for my money, than the old-school toothpick and tweezers. Bottom line: The Midnite Manager is a fantastic little knife -- about the only thing it can't necessarily handle is the idiocy of its owner.

I carried the classic Victorinox SD knife for years on my keychain, and it was certainly a blessing. The slight extra bulk of this product more than justifies the upgrade. I will talk about the features besides those that come with the normal SD with its knife, file/flathead, and scissors. The main advantage here is Pen/Flashlight over Tweezers/Toothpick. If you are like me, you will use the toothpick or tweezers maybe twice a decade. Already in my first couple weeks with this product, I have used the flashlight extensively. And I think we can all remember times when we sorely needed a pen-- with this you will always have one. The flashlight is made for seeing what is in front of you in very dark conditions, and it works at this purpose. For its size, I believe it is as bright as you can expect an LED to get. If you are walking around in the dark at night, you won't trip over anything, and you'll be able to find things when you otherwise wouldn't. It is the most used part of the knife. The Philips head works well, I used it to put a TV together. I was really glad to see they went the extra mile and magnetized it the tip. It is nice to have that as well as the flathead screwdriver. Unfortunately, the bottle opener is pretty weak, being so small- but this is really just an effect of the constraints of physics. It takes two tries to open any bottle cap. But you'll have a bottle opener with you at all times nonetheless. I think this is the best bet for a everyday keychain tool- any more would be too big, and the flashlight and pen make it far superior to any of the other competition. People who wouldn't normally think to carry a knife should consider this, since it will give years of light-duty service from opening packages to peering down nooks and crannies with the flashlight. I was into big "tactical" knives since I was a kid, but most of us will just be opening packages, snipping string and stuff like that. So now as a pragmatist, I say this is the best knife to carry daily. I pack the Leatherman Skeletool in my back pocket when I'm on an outing that may require something more sizeable.

I recently purchased this to try out as an alternative to my Leatherman Micra and Squirt PS4 mini multitoools (which I am very happy with). While it costs appreciably more than either of those options (and is only slightly less expensive than the more elaborate but bulkier Midnite Minichamp), the Midnite Manager gives the average person a near-perfect assortment of tools for everyday use in a slim, thumb-sized package. The pen blade, scissors, and nail file/flat-tip screwdriver from the common Classic keychain SAK are all here, as is a robust mini Phillips/caplifter/wire stripper. Additionally, the tiny but serviceable LED light and retractable pen give the owner a lot of convenience and peace of mind. While it's odd owning a Swiss Army Knife without tweezers or a toothpick, I would much rather have the aforementioned implements in a pinch; worst case, I can probably wait a few hours to remove a sliver, assuming I can't get it out with the fine and sharp pen blade. The only limiting factor of the Midnight Manager is the relatively light-weight construction, inherent in a tool of such small size. I imagine the pen and flashlight compartments would not react kindly to accidental exposure to dirt or water, and the drivers are small and won't stand up to a lot of torque, unlike the mini Leatherman tools which can address some mid-sized tasks in a pinch. I feel like Victorinox could phase out the Manager and Minichamp with a compromise model incorporating another thin layer of tools, with the spare, sheep's foot blade of the Minichamp on one side, and a short, solid, medium screw driver and shortened hook blade tool (to score oranges or open packages) on the reverse side [UPDATE - I have since learned the discontinued Vagabond model was exactly that. Revisit it, Victorinox]. However, for functional yet stylish everyday carry of office workers, minimalists, or airline travelers (assuming the reversal of TSA security policy next month), the Victorinox Midnite Manager is very hard to beat. It got me back into SAKs after a dozen years!

I've had my Midnite Manager for three months and love it. Mini knives are nice because they not bulky or heavy in your pocket. Bought this one because it has the handy tools plus the LED light. I didn't think the pen would be that useful, but it has become one of the features used the most. At first I found it somewhat clumsy to write with, but by using the pen with the bottle opener/phillips screw driver blade retracted it provides the additional support you get with a regular pen. By pressing the light switch with the side of your middle finger you . can write in the dark - extremely handy. The quality is what you expect from Swiss Army, functionality of the Midnite Manager is exceptional. Had it more than two years now and this knife is still great! Still use the pen quite often - never liked carrying a pen in my shirt pocket. This little guy fits in my Levis watch pocket, out of the way but easy to get out when needed (which is often). The light is good for small stuff, but don't expect to light up large areas, it's not meant for that. Replaced the battery twice, but I think one time was because something in my pocket kept the switch pressed for a long time. If lost, I would replace it, but would try to find one with a brighter light.

Of all the small Swiss Army Knives, the Rambler is probably the most useful. It has what you may actually use and doesn't have all that crap you will never use. So, this Midnight Manager is basically a Rambler plus a light and a pen. I couldn't care less about the pen, I would rather have the conventional tweezers, but that is not an option. The addition of the light makes this SWAK the best of the small SWAKs. I carry it in my pocket every day. Sadly, I think the Midnight Manager is discontinued. Get one while you can.

I enjoy and collect several multitools. In the past, I used a Leatherman Micra on my keychain. While my opinion of it hasn't changed (it's a great tool), the victorinox midnight manager replaced it, and is now the one that actually goes on my keychain. So reasons for switching? 1. Weight. The Victorinox Midnight Manager weighs just over one ounce; 31 grams / 1.1 ounces to be specific. For comparison, the Leatherman Micra weighs 51 grams / 1.8 ounces, and the even lighter leatherman Style CS weighs 41 grams / 1.4 ounces. The VMM is ultra light, and you can tell the difference. 2. I absolutely love the built in LED light. It's white, bright, and well integrated. The button is located under the victorninox logo, which is physically etched onto the tool, making it VERY easy to find in the dark. You won't even have to think about it. Also, it might sound strange, but the tactile click it produces is quite satisfying. So much that I end up pressing it often when there's no need, haha. Unlike most cheap keychain lights, with exposed LED bulbs, the VMM bulb is recessed into and flush with the casing. No more prone to being accidentally scratched or dinged in this position. Additionally, it's much more pleasant and ergonomic to use a flashlight of this size and shape than the tiny button-style ones you see on supermarket checkout shelves. It uses a replaceable 389 1130W button battery; I've replaced mine easily without any trouble. 3. I enjoy having a REAL phillips screwdriver, as opposed to the flat, semi-phillips on leatherman tools. Don't get me wrong, those get the job done... for the most part. However, in my experience, a truly 4-way screwdriver just works better. It also features a bottle opener and wire-stripper. 4. A pen. How many times do you just need a pen? This thing is small, just works, and easy to access when you need it. The mechanism that slides it out is simple enough, but cleverly uses sideways-detents to keep it from sliding out accidentally. The pen is removable and refillable. The whole tool is polished, literally and figuratively. The small knife is sharp and works just like you'd expect. The nail file is robust and offers a flat screwdriver tip. The scissors, while not the same size and scope as the integrated, collapsible ones on leatherman tools (which I admittedly do like), are nonetheless surprisingly effective - smooth, sharp cutting, with close to perfect springy resistance. All the fingernail slots (used for pulling the tools out) are well-placed. These things look slick. I got mine in blue / sapphire. The only negative here, which is minor, is that the casing will gather light scratches over time. This bothered me more at first; now that I've had it over a year, it turns out they don't accumulate in a way that makes a real noticeable difference. Looks terrific, even after a year. Nothing is perfect, but this comes close. All the tools are useful, including some key features (← see what I did there?) that few other multitools have, while weighing less. Nothing feels out of place or incorrectly implemented. Well recommended. 5 stars.

The best victorinox.

La utilizo a diario, como llavero, aunque eso se me había ocurrido hasta después de que la recibí. Poseo otra navaja, de Victorinox también, una RangerGrip 79, que es de 130 mm, y me encuentro utilizando más seguido la pequeña (ésta), su portabilidad se lleva el premio. Un gran producto por los $580 que pagué. Recomendada.

What do I really need everyday? A compact format tool, a pair of scissor to cut stuff clean, a blade to open package or cut stuff rough, Philips/flat screwdriver obviously, a pen because you always need a pen and a file in bonus. The bottle opener for emergency PR situations. Some will says that everybody have a light on their cellphone, but this have a light next to the pen so you can see what you sign (I'm working night shift on sites hence the midnight part of the name)... Noting to add except this is Victorinox quality at Victorinox price some will say, but what use is something you can't trust? And what's a good bargain on something you can't use?
