I have no easy way to check
Will this device remove a cork from a bottle of wine? Yes, very efficiently. Is it a "real" Pulltap's? That's how it's inscribed. I have no easy way to check. If it is a "knockoff," it's a well made one. The hinges are strong; the two lips (whatever they are called) engage the wine bottle firmly and at the proper angle; and the corkscrew itself is made of hardened steel and is very sharp. Admittedly, I have never studied corkscrew technology and previously have picked up the cheapest available tool at the local liquor store; that said, this is by far the best corkscrew I've owned in a long life opening thousands of wine bottles, and I can't imagine how it could be better. It is strong, effective, compact, and (relatively) cheap. [Aside: The wide quality variation registered in some Amazon product reviews (like those for this corkscrew) raise in my mind the possibility that some low quality counterfeits escape the Amazon filters. For that reason, whereas I feel comfortable buying an item like this one, produced by 19th Century technology, that can easily be checked, I am wary of buying some Hitech mass produced items like memory chips for cameras.]

Very Nice and recommended
I like this a lot; very easy to use, lightweight, handy, nicely shaped, and has good leverage with two stages of cork removal. Great for travel, but check it, not to be taken in a carry-on as you never know what TSA will take. As seen in the photo it has a small foil cutting knife. A cheap-o wine opener was taken from me in Mexico (the type that forms a T and fits through the handle) that only had a very dull corkscrew. I was almost 'reported'. Also it happened with a 1" long glasses repair kit screwdriver; they warned me not to travel with it again. I did not question it but really!!?? The crokscrew was very dull and the screwdriver very, very tiny! A dull corkscrew could be a weapon or tiny screwdriver made for glasses? How about a pencil or pen? or cellphone and many other things? This is very nice, too nice to have taken from you. Great for home/party use, too. I recommend this, would buy again, and hope this helps someone.

Pretty good wine tool, but not perfect for my use (admittedly very picky)
A good to very good waiter style tool. The good: long screw that's coated to reduce binding in hard corks and will go all the way through even long corks excellent articulated, multi-position lever easy to grip handle made with good quality materials no "hot spots" in hand The not so good: thick screw can still bind in hard or long corks, not kind to older corks awkwardly short foil cutter that's more of a mini saw than a blade, almost impossible to get a cleanly cut capsule with

Works well and stores well
This folds up nicely for carrying or storage (way better than most corkscrew designs). It works very well; the two-stage operation provides plenty of leverage, making it easy to remove a cork. The design is sturdy and simple, so I think it will last a very long time.

Works well
Very handy bottle opener. I have tried many styles and this one is my favorite. The two step method doesn't take long to learn and gives great leverage when done properly. After a few tries, I find it the fastest way to cleanly remove foil and cork. I recommend sharpening the foil blade a little. It really doesn't have to be chef knife sharp, but ships a bit dull. After just a little sharpening, it cuts foil very neatly.

I am guessing this isn't a reall Pulltap's
So..... I have had a Pulltap's corkscrew for ten years, the same one, and I keep it in my purse so I have it whenever I need it. I have used many different types of corkscrews and the Pulltap is by far the best. I have a weird attachment to mine, and since I have had it for so long, I panic whenever I misplace it! Well I recently misplaced mine and after a week of looking for it and not finding it, I decided to order a new one. As soon as I received the new one I questioned whether it was a real Pulltap's or not. It looks very similar to my old one. In fact I found my old one a day after I received the new one so I have compared them. My old one has a foil cutter that is still sharp and serrated after ten years of regular use. This new one is so dull! It resembles a serrated knife but doesn't actually function as such. There are a few other minor differences, a couple markings that are different, and I am still confused as to whether the new one is real. It opens bottles just fine, I just wonder why the foil cutter is so dull on it?? It's pretty much useless, and my old one is still sharp! So I just had to voice my observation, as someone who is a loyal Pulltap's customer, that I would expect when buying a new one, for the foil cutter to be able to cut the foil......
