Leder Games, Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right, Board Game, Ages 10plus, 2 - 4 Players, 60 - 90 Minute Playing Time

We bought this game because of the design, I wasn't expecting it to be so complex (in a good way). The rules took us about 1 hour to read, but once we understood all of the mechanics we can now open the box, set up and play without having to go back and read everything through again. There is a small follow-along rulebook to get you started, but we just went straight for the main rules instead. The design is stunning. Everything feels premium from the board to the individual pieces. A very fun game that takes us ~1 hour to complete each turn.

Opening and exploring the box was a joy, everything is really high quality and nice to look at. There's quite a bit in the box, you'll need quite a large table to comfortably fit all the components, as each player has their own board, cards and tokens in front of them as well as the main map. The games clearly been through a lovingly thorough design process, and only once you play it do you see all of the games depth unfold. At first the rulebook looks daunting but it's actually quite concise, and turns become very fast, making the game actually quite quick. There is quite a bit to it though, so probably best for people who've board gamed before, and definitely a more competitive crowd.

Steep learning curve, but really enjoyable once you're passed it. The game is beautifully designed, and factions have interesting and varying mechanics, which brings freshness to each playtime. Be mindful that some rules can be complex and nuanced, and I had to use internet to get definitive answers. Box arrived fast and in perfect condition, really happy with my purchase.

A really good game! Lots of complexity makes it a real step up from a lot of other 'classics strategy games, but omg is it complicated to get to grips with! Not the kind of game you can just get your mates round to play...they have to do some serious 'pre-work' before they do!

This game is brilliant, and works well as two player. I love how when playing as different factions you have to adopt completely different strategies and you have different objectives to win the game. The more you play, you learn that it's just as important to pay attention to what your opponent is doing as to what you're doing. I also love the quality of this game, all the pieces are well made and visually appealing. This is quickly becoming a favourite of ours.

Came in perfect condition. Very slight imperfections on the box but everything else perfect! The game is incredibly fun. It struggles slightly at 2 player but you can print and play with Hirelings (which are from other expansions) which help 2/3 players tremendously. Amazingly fun at 4 player too! Will recommend this game to anyone who loves strategy and battling against their friends and family.

If you like strategy games and have the time and patience to master the first run through game you will love this! We cannot wait until our next Root session. We played for eight hours, around lunch and very relaxed with drinks. Time flew and we were enraptured. We’ve bought many expansions too… looking forward to meeting more characters.
