I've had issues with ordering 48MP modules that are nowhere near 48MP. That is absolutely not the case here. Image quality is sharp and clear. The module is easy to hookup. My PC auto detected it with no problems. It does get a little warm, so do keep that in mind if you want to use this for a project/machine thay requires long viewing time. Overall, this is a solid camera module for a good price. I do recommend it more for Webcam use than anything else due to the temperature. Review: Great image quality, but no enclosure and none available anywhere - The camera itself performs well, but it ships as a bare PCB with zero enclosure options โ I searched and found nothing in resale. If you donโt have a way to house it, thatโs a real problem. Fortunately I have a 3D printer and made my own mount. Good hardware held back by a frustrating oversight from the manufacturer.

ELP 48MP Wide Angle Camera Module
What we have here is a project cam, as it has no enclosure with a 48MP S5KGM1ST04 CMOS sensor. There is a great deal of noise in the video in low light conditions and if the unit is not kept perfectly still it blurs and the autofocus takes time to adjust, so not the greatest for fast movement or dark shooting. Excellent for, well lit, stills and focused video. It does have a wide lens that gives you so much more of the area you are shooting. The advertising claims ~100ยฐ which is accurate, give or take a few degrees. Simple USB 2.0 seems a bit on the slow side for a 48MP sensor, and this sensor has capabilities not even tapped by the unit itself. If you do not mind 5fps it will record 8000 x 6000. The instructions name the apps they think work best with it. They do. It claims a 200ms auto focus, and in my use it was about 200ms, but again, this means it will not track fast movement well and it becomes blurry for a moment if you move it too much. This sensor needs a good amount of light to operate well. In a dimly lit area the videos and photos produced are noisy. Once you increase the light it dramatically increases the pictures crispness, lowers noise tremendously and produces excellent 2160p video that is on par with my Google Pixel 3 which is also a single CMOS sensor device. Unfortunately, Amazon will not allow me to upload full size images due to file size, so I cannot show the photos of low light and high light to demonstrate the difference. It can get very hot if left to run for more than 5 minutes. Overall, if you have a project in mind and you have software to process the images the way Google's AI does, you can grab some excellent pictures and even ok video but the unit's max is 3840 x 2160p 30 fps for video. The 8000 x 6000 mode works for stills and 5fps video and does punch up the pictures significantly. I like the unit but for the price? To not have 60 fps for video is a bit of a deal breaker. Lowering the resolution does not change this. I feel that this unit should be in the sub $100 price range to make sense with the feature set available. The other thing is that the Samsung S5KGM1ST04 48/12 MP CMOS sensor has features, like 10-Bit color, that is not used by the hardware. You do get YUY2 for better compression for streaming video, which is a nice touch, but this further compresses it. Great for streaming in 2160p! The biggest limiting factor is the USB 2.0 connection and I am guessing why higher resolution streaming and colors are not available through the hardware. There is one last caveat, I was able to stream in 4000 x 3000 resolution with what looked like 30 fps framerate. Mind you, it heats the unit up fast and this will cause most software packages to crash, but with a good fan it should be possible to maintain it longer without a crash. That said, as a project cam this is an excellent choice, just not at the current $139+ price tag. Wait for it to go on sale.

Lens keeps popping off
Not sure what I will do with it. But still seems to work because....the lens fell off! I was able to set it back in place, but no idea how long it will last there. Seems like it needs a little engineering to make sure it doesn't pop out if you are gonna move it at all.

Sharp and high resolution
This USB camera was easy to set up on my Windows PC and the image quality is just really amazing. I am using it for a custom document scanner project and the photos come out in very high resolution with sharp details that make text and fine lines stand out clearly. The wide angle lens has been excellent for capturing full pages without distortion, and the autofocus is quick enough that I do not have to waste time adjusting before each scan. I like that the module itself is compact and does not take up much space, which makes it easy to integrate into a custom build or even move between different setups. After testing it with different lighting conditions, I found the image stays bright and balanced without excessive glare or shadowing, which is important when scanning documents with different paper finishes. The 100 degree field of view has also been useful when I want to capture more than just a page, like notes or items around it. The USB 2.0 connection has been reliable and consistent, and I have not experienced lag or connection drops during use. For my custom scanner it has worked out even better than I expected, and I think this would also be a solid choice for anyone wanting a high resolution camera for other DIY or engraving setups.
