This type of garbage can works out well for my household the one that I currently had will not be able to hold that much. I would always have to pull the bag out midweek and keep it on the side because it was not as big as the one I just purchased, there’s plenty of room you could fill it up. There’s holes at the bottom Rim that you put on top. I wish it had a better locking mechanism for the bag. I can’t tell you that much on the battery life because I just got it. It’s really easy to open. and very easy to remove the garbage out of it the mechanics open up very well. I put my hand over it, and it automatically closes. The plastic does not seem as durable as I but I’m sure it’ll last a long time. The garbage can is pretty it’s made of thin But Strong enough

Update: After a short spell, they sent me an entirely new lid and the can is working exactly as expected. I'd but it again in a heartbeat. Changing rating from 1 to 5 stars. Buy this if you want an automatic (sensor) garbage can. The garbage can is exactly what I wanted. After 2 months of use in my kitchen, the lid would make a loud snapping noise as it closed and opened. Several days later, it stopped opening and closing all together. I emailed ninestars and got a reply back within a few weeks instructing me to do a reset on the unit. Despite already having done so, I did it again. No difference. The gears are stripped out. I emailed them again December 18th (exactly 1 month ago) and haven't heard a peep from them since. The garbage can is useless without a functioning lid. It's basically a stainless steel bucket at this point. I would have given this 5 stars had they been more responsive and taken care of me. The can is a great idea... obviously not very well built.

The can worked great for about 4 months or so then started going out of time meaning the lid would either not go up all the way or shut to quick to where if you were tossing food paper plates the lid would come down on the plate making a mess before you could get it into the can Then now at 5-6 months it’s doing what’s in the video not opening all the way and instantly closing Now at 2 weeks beyond that it stopped opening all together, I’m guessing they used cheap plastic gearing that wore out, granted we’re foster parents with a lot of kids the trash can gets used quite a bit but when doing QC on a project before production all that should be taken into account, and usually they time it just after the warranty runs out so in this case 2 years, I would of been ok with getting 2 years but 6 months is unacceptable and little to no response from support is also unacceptable so if this could get negative stars it would. It has a 2 year warranty but does no good if the company doesn’t respond or take care of its customers! It’s been 16 days since they said 4-5 days for a rep to contact us So at this point we’re just going to cut our losses. hopefully this review will help those looking to buy an automatic can to stay away from this brand And actually we contacted them at the initial onset of problems so in all actuality it’s been about 3 months we’ve been dealing with a TRASH trash can , I’ve had company’s replace a product on the first call within a day or 2 having a replacement without even having to send back the bad one, that’s how it’s supposed to work but this company doesn’t care - but They will! video evidence don’t lie

Who calls a trashcan beautiful? Apparently, we do! We have owned Ninestars brand touchless trash cans for years, this is our 3rd and not only is it stunning in our kitchen, but the motion sensitivity is improved and the company made the lid larger, which gives you a nice big area to lob your trash into. My husband and I LOVE it! We finally found 21 gallon trash bags on Amazon because these cans are ample in size and don't easily accommodate the more standard 13 gallon size trash bags. You can make a 13 gallon bag work but you'll need to stretch the top band by hand before installing it and these cans are designed to hold a 21 gallon bag and all the trash that goes with that. We only have to take out kitchen trash out once a week (empty nesters, but we do all of our cooking at home-trimmings go in the composter). This company just keeps outdoing themselves on the design and function of their kitchen trash cans and we LOVE it! We are devoted Ninestars customers! This can is worth every penny!

Bought this a year ago on June 2020. Lid didn't work when I got it. Got it replaced and it worked fine until today also have not had to replace the batteries yet. Reason for giving it 4 stars is that I had to replace the lid once as soon as I bought it. A year and 4 months later the lid stopped working. I decided to open it and looks like the issue was with the button. Basically I turned off the trashcan and couldn't turn it back on because the button wouldn't click anymore. Opened the lid and stuck a little piece of rubber inside the button cover once I did this I was able to turn on the lid again and made it work. This is definitely a manufacturing issue. The button cover needs to get upgraded or fixed. Pros: Batteries last more than a year currently 1 year and 4 months using Energizer. Big trash can. Looks nice. Great customer service from the company. Cons: A bit expensive. Faulty button lid.

I bought this primarily because I have people of all ages in the house that have issues throwing things away ( don't we all) This "cool' way of disposing of their trash has got them in the mode of cleaning up after themselves as they should. ( yes, I'm talking from 4 yrs all the way up to 58 yrs) I LOVE IT... I love you never have to touch it. ( except to empty and change the bag) I love that it's 21 gallons instead of the traditional 13. I love that it looks nice, never gets touched so I never have to wipe off fingerprints. I love that it actually works.. sometimes a bit too well, when you walk by it, it sometimes opens expecting to be 'fed' as my grandson says. We just moved it a little so the sensor doesn't get accidently triggered. My only issue is when it opens, it tends to drag the smell of what's in the can out with the motion of the lid. I never noticed that on any other can.. I mean - all of the lids open, but I guess this one opens with more oooomph and actually pulls the smell out. I think I Febreeze stick-on will do the trick.. will let you know!!!

UPDATE, JUNE 2023: I finally heard back in December 2021 and Ninestars said the lid was out of stock but that they would ship me a new one when they had more. Three more months of silence followed. I reached out again in early March 2022 asking for an update and pointed out that they continued to sell the trash can online, so clearly they had lids in stock. They finally agreed to send me a new trash can (with lid). I received it in late March. The new trash can worked for less than a year, then broke exactly as the first one had. I've given up on this brand due to major issues with quality, durability and customer service, and will not be ordering anything else from them. __________________________________________________________________________________________ I got this trash can in May 2020 and loved it until the lid stopped working in September 2021. I tried removing the batteries for 24 hours to "reset" the lid as recommended online, to no avail. This trash can is sold with a 2-year warranty so I called NineStars customer service and (in hindsight, amazingly) spoke to a customer service rep named Brianna who told me they would replace the trash can if I sent in proof of purchase and my contact info. I sent an email with my purchase receipt and a description of the problem. I've gotten no response via email or phone and have tried to call NineStars at least 10 times since September. Every single time, regardless of whether I choose customer service (1) or the operator (0), the line rings straight to a "customer service" voicemail. I've left messages and have never gotten a call back. I'll update my review if I ever get a satisfactory resolution from NineStars, but at this point I can say the warranty seems to be totally bogus (and false advertising), since their customer service is completely unreachable and unresponsive. For a trash can that costs $90, this is unacceptable.

This is an amazing garbage can. Not too sensitive but works when you want it to. Has a very large capacity (large black garbage bag) and keeps the smells in the can. Easy to use and change bags. Had it for about a month and it works great so far.

After less than 4 months of use, the lid can no longer be opened. Replacing the battery didn’t work, and contacted product support, but no response.
