I do rather a lot of baking for my family and friends, and my chocolate-chip-with-cream-cheese-frosting cupcakes are by far my best-seller. But frosting cupcakes with a knife is both time-consuming and messy-looking, so I'd been on the lookout for a good froster for quite some time. This decorator pen fits the bill nicely. It's easy to load with icing and (more importantly) very easy to clean. All of the pieces come apart with little difficulty and run fine in the dishwasher. It comes with a variety of frosting tips, though I mostly use the "star tip." I especially like how much frosting the cartridge holds - I've used several frosters before that can only cover one or two cupcakes at a go (lame!) With this one I can get through quite a few before needing to refill it, which is a huge time-and-mess saver. The "trigger" works very well also; it's very easy to control how fast or slow your frosting comes out. The only downside of this device is that the "star tip," which I use the most, is a bit too large and releases too much frosting. I end up having to give my cupcakes more of a "dollop" of frosting than a nice even covering so that they don't get too much. If you prefer a round tip, this probably won't be a problem, because the kit comes with a round "writing" tip that is much smaller. I just like the star look. Otherwise, and especially for the price, I really like this little decorator set. I use it all the time and it's made my frosting process much more streamlined. I may eventually go into the market for an "upgrade" with a bigger capacity and more tip options, but for now, it's doing fine.

This product is awesome! I wanted to provide gourmet cupcakes for a bridal shower, but I had never piped icing before. Ever. So I bought this and in the months leading up to the shower, I made a four practice rounds. I'm sharing the pics from the shower, which was only my fifth time using this product (or any piping tool for that matter!). I personally found that it worked best to insert the icing from the tip end with a very skinny silicone spatula. When I inserted from the non-tip end, I got more air bubbles. Make sure you pack the icing (I used buttercream) tightly or you will get air bubbles and it won't look as nice. This product worked fabulously! So easy! I love, love, love it and will use it every chance I get! The button that you push with your thumb gives you ultimate control to have a steady speed for the best consistency and finished look. Cleanup is a breeze and you don't have to worry about running out of bags. UPDATE: After using it about 10 times over 5 months, the threading around the top of the clear plastic tube cracked the whole way around and fell off.

In summary, the Wilton Dessert Decorator is amazing. You can now say good-bye to messy pastry bags and tips. At under $10, this is such a bargain! I also love that you can use it not only for desserts, but for deviled eggs as well. The Decorator not only decorates the tops of cupcakes, but also has an injector tip so you can inject filling inside cupcakes. After testing it out on a batch of chocolate cupcakes, my five-year-old son said, "Wow! Those look like the cupcakes from the bakery." And he was right. I am not a particular excellent cupcake decorator and most of the time my creative culinary efforts turn into Pinterest-fails. It is incredible to find an affordable tool that makes it so easy. The Decorator is BPA-free and so easy to use and clean-up. The directions were simple and assembly took about a minute. With the variety of included tips, you can create ribbons, leaves, roses and so much more. The plunger really pushes the frosting down the tub, making for no waste and easy clean-up. A few tips: You might find you need more than one can of frosting to frost a batch of cupcakes, as the Decorator will create fluffier frosting creations than using a knife. I would also recommend putting the frosting in the Decorator tube when it is room temp /slightly liquefied, and then refrigerate it while the cake bakes to get to right frosting consistency. This makes it easier to get in the tube. I also found a very narrow rubber spatula worked fine as well. I love this product and I will be using it exclusively for cakes, cupcakes and deviled eggs from now on.

Great while it lasted… which was less than a year of use from this occasional baker. The plastic parts started cracking all about the same time. (And we only hand wash.) Will be purchasing a metal version of this decorating tool. Great concept. Cheap parts.

I’ve bought several cake decorator tools through the years, but this is definitely the BEST! I’ve used it several times and it’s easy to fill and clean. It’s hard plastic and you don’t have to use those crazy plastic bags! The various screw on decorative tips make your cake or cookies look like they were done by a professional! Absolutely buy this!

I haven't tried it with frosting yet, but it is fabulous for deviled eggs. I brought some to a Christmas gathering and I was quite proud of myself! They were piped perfectly, and it went so quickly! And everything pops in the dishwasher. Well worth the money!

I'm a novice cake maker and really wanted to take things a step further without embarrassing myself too much with the decorating side of things. I read all the reviews on here and this item seemed to be the one which best suited my proficiency. So with the help of Mary Berry's book I got to work and made her fairy cakes. So far so good. Then unpacking this little beauty was a bit scary, but I do recommend you read the item instructions. So with the fairy cakes, I used the long nozzle and filled the cakes with seedless strawberry jam and then using the star nozzle, decorated them with butter icing. Ok, so perfection comes with practise, but for a first attempt my family were pleased at being my guinea pigs, but tbh, I'd give it 5 stars just for the fun factor. Just to create and decorate something from the ordinary was very rewarding, simple to do and fun...my family are very pleased that I'm so easily pleased. It all worked exactly as it said it would and I'm now looking forward to trying out the other nozzles on other recipes.

Produto de qualidade inferior, dois meses que comprei e já está quebrando a parte que é de rosquear. Já tive outros da mesma marca e duraram mais de 5 anos. Infelizmente a qualidade caiu significativamente.

This is better than the usual cake decorator, being far more solidly constructed and quite a bit larger than the generic cheap made-in-China ones which are frustrating to use because the small size makes it both difficult to get icing in and requires frequent refilling. One reviewer pointed out that the trigger only moves the plunger about halfway down, this only happens if you do it when it's empty, once it's filled with icing the trigger moves the plunger all the way down.
