Onkyo DXC390 6 Disc CD Changer,Black

I love this CD changer. Bought for the mother for Christmas and hooked it up in less than 6 minutes. Easy to install. Works like a charm! FANTASTIC. WISH I BOUGHT IT SOONER. I was there the driver delivered. Came in gigantic box to protect it from damage. Tons of styrofoam and protection. Driver had it on floor under shelf, secure. Thank you Amazon and Onkyo!!!!!!! Has remote-fits in with stereo-not too heavy-beautiful--great sound and playback of 6 cds that are easy to change out!

I purchased this Onkyo DX-C390 carousel CD player to replace my 31 year-old Sony CDP-CA9ES player. The Onkyo plays 6 discs in sequence, or in a random order. The sound quality is wonderful. The included infrared remote works, and offers full control. This player offers standard analog RCA output, and digital output (both optical and RCA coax.) Note that the Onkyo unit is two inches deeper than the Sony, 17" deep vs. 15", due to the fact that the Sony model only holds 5 discs. You may need a deeper shelf area if you are replacing an older CD player. Two other things to know. 1. When in random mode, when playing more than one disc, the delay between tracks can be as long as 10 to 12 seconds - which strikes me as a bit long. The Sony model was only about 4 or 5 seconds. But like the Sony, the Onkyo allows you to swap out a CD while another one is playing. 2. Some people have reported that this player does not play a disc without inserting silence between tracks, known as the "gapless" playback issue. My unit, manufactured in July 2024, does not have this issue. It plays gapless, when playing a single CD from start to finish. The reports I saw said that Onkyo made a design change which affects the ability of this unit to play gapless. Mine was not affected, but later production models may have this issue. So be aware of this. Hopefully you can get a DX-C390 that plays gapless. For me, this is a wonderful player - at a reasonable price - and I plan to use it daily, for a long time. I hope this review is helpful to you.

This is my first time getting a CD changer. My parents had one when I was a kid, but I never tried to get one until now. I think once I moved to MP3 players in the mid-2000s I no longer cared, but getting back into CDs I decided to pick this up after hearing great things from people I trust and sure enough I am not disappointed (so far). I almost got the single disc player from Onkyo which supposedly sounds better, but I saw way more reviews noting problems after less than a year. This mostly seems to work great for people and this same model has been going strong for decades. One thing I do want to note is some person who reviewed this on another site claimed it doesn’t have gapless playback, or at least newer ones don’t. Well, that is NOT true as I bought this new and popped in a CD I knew had seamless tracks and sure enough it played through without any added gaps between them. So, what are my overall thoughts on this player? It rocks! The sound is fantastic through my Onkyo A-9010 and floor-standing speakers. The player is dead quiet (when it’s not changing discs), playback has been perfect so far, and it has a nice assortment of features that I mostly don’t care about. Zero complaints for this buyer. Sure I could have saved money tracking down a used unit, but if I can get something new, I’ll always go that route. I do wish Amazon hadn’t delivered it upside down, though, that certainly freaked me out at first.

If there were many CD changers from which to choose, this unit would probably sell for half the price. (Granted, there are some high-end CD players that cost more, and do less; but they are for, in my not-so-humble opinion, people with more money than sense.) Here are a list of features that it would be nice for a unit of this price to have: 1. Ability to select, on the device itself, not just on the remote control, the track one wants to play. 2. Similarly, it should be possible to program a sequence of tracks on the unit itself, not just from the remote control. 3. Support for the (admittedly obsolete) index (sub-track) feature of CDs. Anybody remember that? 4. Ability to play SACDs. On the plus side, the build quality seems good, and so far it has been completely reliable in playing discs. I also found it helpful that it has a coaxial digital output as well as optical and analog. I leave it to the reader to look over the entire feature list to see which appeal to you. Other advantages over the old Sony changer that I replaced are that it can be powered on and off remotely, it can program more tracks, and it shows the remaining time even when a large number of tracks are programmed. This player--at this price--is clearly not something for the person who plays a CD only now and then; one can get a DVD player for 1/10 the price that plays all manner of CDs (except, in most cases, SACDs); but in case it isn't obvious, the advantages of this unit over a DVD player, for fans of CDs, are (1) one doesn't have to perform all functions, including monitoring what track is being played, time-into-track, time remaining, etc. with the help of a TV; thankfully, all this information is presented on the unit's own display; and (2) it's a changer, holding up to 6 CDs. (That reminds me that if the 8-hour playing time inherent in the 6-CD capacity isn't enough, this unit also plays MP3 CDs, allowing one to load it up with enough music to last for several days!) One other note: My 5-star rating on "Sound quality" doesn't mean anything: of course the sound quality is perfect through the digital outputs; and I have not used or tested the unit's analog outputs (where the quality of the DAC could make a difference).

Expensive POS I know, the return window closed long ago, but I just looked around and realized that I haven't been able to play a CD in over a year - not since spending top dollar on this horrible device. Maybe it was dropped in transit? I don't know, but it has never - NEVER - played more than a single cd without skipping and repeating beats. Horrible. I followed the manufacturer's instructions for resetting the player - apparently it has some special abilities to better decode the information on the cd - so I cleared the memory, powered down, powered up, held buttons while doing so...made me feel like a fool when it played the first cd just fine (success!) and then screwed up immediately thereafter. I have tried to fire it up once or twice since, but it's so disappointing that I go back to streaming music. But I want to play MY music! I came to Amazon today in the hopes of finding something other than this same Onkyo device - really, I'm prepared to just take it to the dump if I can find something that works as well as the DENON that worked like a charm for 20 years until it didn't. How is it possible that THIS is still the only option??? Horrible.

I purchased this Onkyo 6-disc player (DXC390) in April of 2009, and have had no problems or complaints in the 26 months since. The 6-disc changer's playback quality is nothing short of amazing. Although I purchased a souped-up netbook to use as an .mp3 library for my home theater, and have my entire library burned at 320kbs, there is obviously no comparing the compressed quality of .mp3s to the crystal clear definition achieved with this CD player. This is regardless of using Onkyo's "Music Optimizer" or Soundblaster's "Crystallizer" enhancements for restoring .mp3 losses; neither brings the music back. I do not work as a sound-engineer, in a Hollywood studio, nor a symphony hall; but I can say without a doubt that my untrained ear is very pleased by the step-up from a high bitrate .mp3 (with or without optimization) to the real thing on CD. I rarely use the netbook, in spite of its conveniences. I have never had a problem with the front-loading tray; never have had a disc "jump" out of its disc-well; have used it for many nights of 8+ hours of constant random playback (often switching in new discs during playback;) and have played over 300 different discs without problems of playback/player identification issues. I do not keep burned discs in my collection, so I cannot vouch for all varieties of copied music being compatible. My disc changer is paired with an Onkyo TX-SR806 A/V Receiver via an optical connection, and I have had exactly zero problems with either. I keep both in a somewhat open environment (1.5" to the L, 6" above, 12" behind, and 18" to the R of the stack) with an Antec component fan on top of the receiver to maximize air flow throughout. No troubles with overheating, and therefore, no loss of performance (permanent or otherwise.) The price is ridiculously fair. Would I purchase it again? Yes, without a doubt. I intend to buy a couple more units such that I have replacements if Onkyo ever stops producing these fine machines; I have 50+ years of life left, and I intend to jam to the bittersweet end. **UPDATE**: Today (Aug 19, 2011) I received my two new DXC390 units! They look identical to the original from the review above. Manufacture date of each is from 2011, meaning these are still being produced and not just old stock. Both of the new units are functioning without a hitch so far, and pumping out KISS Icons with graceful detail. It is fitting that these arrived today, as it is the 28-month anniversary date of receiving the first. The original unit is still rocking along, no problems! Now, if I can just get my fiancee to allow me to purchase three more of these over the first couple years of our marriage... :) By the way, I purchased a "Digital Audio" 3-way rotary digital optical selector switch for connection of all three disc-changers to the same A/V optical input. Very nice CD player at any price, but for the price I got this for on Amazon I couldn't have gone wrong with this player. Works and plays beautifully, my CD's sound great. Easy to hook up to my amp and the remote is easy to use as well. It comes with a set of RCA cables (cheap looking RCA cables) but I used a Monster optical cable I had instead of the RCA cables. Sound quality is amazing at this or any price point. Just FYI I have this hooked up to a brand new Onkyo A 9150 amp and I am using a brand new pair of Keff LS50 speakers. I have no real complaints on this unit with the exception of the green light on the front of it, every piece of equipment I own has a blue light so I wish this had a blu light as well. Whats with the green light Onkyo? If I could I would dock a half a star for the green light but maybe I'll get used to it with time. The loading time switching from disc to disc seemed a little on the slow side about 8 seconds but maybe thats average for a multi disc cd changer, I haven't owned one in years. I have been like a lot of people over the years have gotten away from LP's and CD's and have been downloading music. Not any more I also just purchased a ProJect turn table and am now back to LP's 7 CD's, preferably LP's. This is a great CD player for very little money and I could not be any happier with my purchase (with the exception of that green light). One last thing worth mentioning, this is just a CD player meaning you will need to hook this up to either an AMP or a receiver using RCA plugs or a optical cable to power it.

Easy to load and operate for a couple of senior citizens.

I have no idea what the bad reviews are from. This thing is perfect and sounds amazing. Plays everything I throw at it. Super happy for the purchase.

Finalmente pude desempolvar toda la colección de CDs que tenia en una caja. Había estado usando ocasionalmente el Blueray player para reproducir uno que otro CD, no me convenció. Finalmente me decanté por adquirir este CD Player de Onkyo para hacer juego con mi viejo receptor Onkyo TX-RZ810. Definitivamente la reproducción es nítida, se nota bien el uso de DACs de audio del reproductor, incluso el MP3 se escucha bien. Siendo un reproductor con capacidad para 6 cds pensé que afectaría la calidad de la reproducción con respecto a la versión para un solo CD, no siendo experto en ingeniería de sonido ni tísico la verdad no noto ningún defecto auditivo. Es una lástima que la marca Onkyo haya desaparecido del mercado, el juego de bocinas (torres y satélites), boofer, ampli y ahora CD player de la marca dan lo que se necesita en calidad de sonido para el hogar. El cd player es Made in Malaysia por si a alguien le sirve el dato. Por parte de Amazon, todo bien, recibí el aparato en tiempo y forma. Cinco bien merecidas estrellas.

i am not so happy,it did not make it clear this would not work on uk power system.needs to be made much clearer,and either say it needs a power converter,or at this price include one since the delivery adress is quite obvious.this really very poor.when i get an extra bit i hope it lives up to its billing...so be ware
