Can the hands be trimmed?

Sure... The metal can easily be trimmed. You could maybe even do it with a pair of heavy scissors or a pair of side cutters. Good luck.

What is the diameter of the threaded shaft, since I need to drill a hole through a piece of plywood?

Hello, the diameter of the threaded shaft is about 8 mm. Thanks

Any suggestions on why the minute hand will not go past the 7?

Probably touching the hour hand. Have to bend them so they are parallel all the way around. Also mount perfectly vertical.
