Big Girl Blues
Description
Product Description On Big Girl Blues, Joanna Connor brings a revved up rock flavor to the blues with a desire to move the music forward, not just pay tribute to it. This recording features twelve self-penned originals, impassioned and inspired guitar work and her strongest and most expressive vocals to date. There is no doubt that this recording will further Joanna's reputation as one of the brightest stars of the new blues generation. About the Artist Once she stepped off a greyhound bus in Chicago in October of 1984, it took Joanna but a few months to take the city’s highly competitive blues circuit by storm. Chicago magazine hailed her as "the most exciting new talent on the blues scene." The Chicago Sun-Times called her "a powerhouse guitarist with a sense of rock dynamics - her playing has a fire that is free of self-indulgence."

It seems you only get the real Joanna if she plays live
So disappointing. Joanna is a great talent on guitar. This is my 2nd CD from her which has been a let down.

Big girl blues...
I find it difficult to analyse and review great blues records like this, I really do. None of the tracks are remarkable, but all of them are more than acceptable, if not excellent. That is just what blues rock albums are like. They don't stray far from their path, but you know what you are going to get - honest, unpretentious music. That is why it is difficult to pick and praise one track any more than another. What I know is this, Joanna Connor can play the blues. Classic stuff. No bull. No pretence. Just 12 great blues songs, written by herself. A breath of fresh air and a highly enjoyable 45 minutes or so.TRACK LISTING1. Big Girl Blues2. 43rd Street3. Fly Away4. They Love Each Other5. Love it
This is what the blues is all about. I don't understand why so many people express surprise at a woman singing and playing the blues. Think about it. No group of people has been more consistently crapped on and abused for thousands of years. Who better to sing the blues? People's surprise at her skill and talent is a small example. Ability and talent have nothing to do with gender.....Thus endeth today's sermon.
