DAP Fast'N Final Lightweight Spackling, 1 gal, White

I wanted to make a fake birthday cake for my 40th birthday for a photoshoot (I'm too clumsy to use a real one) I looked at many videos for inspiration and direction. Majority of the videos I watched recommended using a light weight spackle as the "frosting". Let me tell you! It was perfect!! I never purchased this before so I was skeptical on if it would look like buttercream. The product is fluffy, but a little too thick for a piping bag, so I added a little water at a time till I got the consistency that I wanted. )Now, you don't want to add too much then then it will make it too soft and won't hold its shape.) I ordered the 32oz thinking it would be enough, but it wasn't. I had to go to a big box store and get another 32oz and used have of that. The price was a little cheaper on amazon, but not by much. The color is white when wet and dries white as well. I would still recommend painting it after it's completely dry to give a more finished look. Overall great product and good price! I would buy again.

I bought this lightweight spackling to actually put on canvas to do a 3D art project. It's so easy to use. It goes on smoothly and easily and it stays put it doesn't crack. It stays white. It doesn't fade or discolor. It's very versatile because I have put it in a piping bag and piped out the spackling to look like frosting and it holds its shape. It will dry well lasts a long time, it's very effective using it in many ways. And actually you can use it for spackling your walls. But you can use it in your crafts of all sorts. You can put it in a piping bag and make it come out really thin like spaghetti to use it to make a 3D on cards or in journaling or on crafts of any kind. It's paintable, meaning if you paint over it it will stay on there. It won't crack or peel off. It was a good value for the money. You can always count on the the name brand name DAP They make good products. I recommend this product

I used this to "ice" and pipe designs onto my fake cakes. It is super smooth and looks just like real frosting. The color is a perfect bright white that can be used by itself or with paint added to it to make various colors. It is best to wash your tools right away after using this because it dries fairly quickly (about 20-30 minutes) For very thick pipings, it takes about 1 day to dry to the touch, but about a week to dry underneath. Even when it's dry underneath, if you press on it you can feel it is a bit flexible and not rock-hard. However, pressing on it won't mess up the frosting (unless you press super hard on it). Definitely handle your fake cake mindfully even after it is dry. I've found that thinner pipings of this will dry harder than super thick pipings. Hopefully some matte spray varnish will help make it more durable.

Good product. Nice size. Good price. Great to keep on hand at the ready when making household changes. Quick drying so quick to paint over. Note: Shelf life is longer if kept in air conditioned area rather than garage or out buildings

This is a very strange substance that can work well in a variety of cosmetic repair applications, but it may take a bit of practice. It's not a creamy putty sort of thing. It's almost like a cross between frosting and very finely ground polystyrene foam, or something. It's quite dry, extremely lightweight, and a little finicky. It will stick well to an overhead repair, but also to the knife. A wet blade will often get you better results. In fact, adding a SMALL amount of water to this stuff will change its character considerably, which gives you a range of options. You can smooth the nearly-dry product with a damp sponge, but if you go at it too soon you'll peel it off onto the sponge. Doesn't shrink much -- I've successfully filled an inch-deep repair in a single application, but successive gradual fills are easier to manage. Sands easily once it's dry, if you need to touch it up. But if it's not completely dry, you may leave gouges in it and have to re-coat once again. Takes paint well once it's dry. The ease of changing this stuff's fill characteristics by adding water (or not) are my favorite thing about it. If you don't have luck with it, experiment with the leftovers and see if you can learn to work it. It's more versatile than you may think. I also like that if you drop a glob of it, it doesn't splatter. Clean-up is easy.

I purchased this item to flock pinecones. Goes on good but you have to kind of play with it to stay where you want it to be.
