OXO Good Grips Pepper Mill with Rotating Handle

I was very hesitant to buy this when I read through the reviews, which I found hard to believe because Oxo is usually such a great and reliable brand. But I have needed a good, working pepper mill for some time now, and the other extremely expensive grinders that Oxo sells are just not high-volume enough to suit me. My roommates have a set of the taller Oxo grinders that cost $50 a set and the output on those is very low, and frankly, at $25 a pop, theyre very overpriced. Theyre nice and sturdy, but disappointing. When I'm cooking, I dont have the time to fiddle around and crank a grinder 50 times for a grain of spice. I want to be able to get my teaspoon of pepper in just a few goes and move on. This is the grinder that does that. I'm so glad I took the chance. I figured for $12, it's not much of a risk. I am happy to report that if you have one of these grinders with a bad compartment window, exchange it. The unit I received is extremely well built and seems quite durable. The crank is smooth and easy to turn, and if my hands are giving me a hard time I hold it closer to the base of the crank and it's much easier. Because of the other reviews, I only filled the chamber about a third of the way with peppercorns and then placed a rubberband around it to prevent it from accidentally popping open during operation. Before filling it at all, I examined it closely and opened/shut the chamber door, tried to wiggle it a bit to see if it came loose, and pressed pretty firmly inward to see if it would pop in or off or whatever. It remained very secure, which was surprising, because the little nubs that fit in the grooves at the bottom of the slot are not very deep. Then I tested it out, deliberately handling it more roughly than I normally would to see how it held up. This thing is a little powerhouse. It doesnt stall, get stuck, or give me any kind of a hassle. It grinds a ton of pepper with just three or four cranks, and the grinding is quiet, clean, and smooth. This is a well-made pepper mill, and I'm going to buy another one, maybe two, for salt and maybe other herbs/spices. It's durable plastic, but it's still plastic, so I dont expect it to last forever, especially under very heavy usage. But at $12 or so it's worth every penny, and if it lasts five years it's one of the best deals ever. Even if it lasts only two years, it's still a good deal. Buy it, you won't be sorry. If you get a bad unit, just exchange it. Argue with the Amazon people; theyre usually good about waiving things like return fees if you get on the phone and discuss it with them.

Okay, this is a nice mill. It grinds well and is easy to use. easy to load. ONE ISSUE: if you are grinding corns and trying to hold the mill tightly so that it won't slip, you are in effect, pressing on the "door" where you load the peppercorns. It's fine shaped instead of cylindrical and you have to really hold on to it when you start grinding. after a little use I pressed the door too hard apparently, and dislodged it. I was able to put it back and the mill still functions fine, but it's not like it was and is loose feeling. Now when I use it I have to place and position it in my hand so that the pressure on that little door is as little as possible. I foresee the pressure of my hand will at some time break the plastic hinge and make it pretty much unusable. I don't have large hands, but the mill is not that big around so there really is no way to hold it and use it without touching that hatch in some way. It's basically an issue with design. If it was a cylinder, and not come shaped, or a little taller, I don't think this would Be been an issue. Ever since I did this, the mill seems less solid when I'm holding it and just grabbing it and using it is not really possible. It still works well, but it feels wobbly in my hand. Since this was not what I would call a cheap mill, and IT IS NOT cheaply made, (although it was inexpensive) I am disappointed that I had trouble with it so soon after purchase. I think I had had it less than a month before I pushed the door in. To be fair, I use more pepper than most people.

I've owned many pepper grinders and this one is hands down the best. I've purchased three of them and use them to grind Kirkland peppercorns and Kirkland Himalayan pink salt. The ergonomics are great, it's easy to fill, it grinds well, and it's inexpensive. I highly recommend this grinder, as it does exactly what you need it to, does it well, and isn't outrageously priced. However, the first two I purchased, after a year of use, broke. The same thing happened to the grinder my parents purchased. The handle breaks off. The shaft/axle the handle turns to grind the pepper/salt is made of steel. The part of the handle transferring the torque of your hand cranking the handle to this axle is plastic and obviously too weak to work long-term. Either this plastic needs to be of a higher quality or another material, like steel, needs to be used. To rectify the issue with my parents' grinder, they started using locking pliers gripping the steel axle of the grinder. I did the same with the second grinder that broke for me, but it's so heavy that it tips over and is also much less ergonomic/user friendly than the factory handle. Because of this, I've thought about a few different solutions. Today I tried a 6 mm quarter drive socket on the square axle. It fits well. The ratcheting action makes this setup very convenient and more ergonomic/user friendly than the locking pliers. Plus, the ratchet is simple to attach/detach from the socket on the grinder, so it no longer tips over. Unfortunately, it isn't too attractive and my tools are being used for the grinder, so I'll have to purchase another socket and ratchet to replace them. Although I love this grinder and highly recommend it, it isn't perfect. Hopefully the designers/manufacturers roll out an improved version. Until then, I'll use my simple DIY fix.

The “OXO Good Grips Radial Pepper Grinder” with its ergonomic crank is a good grinder while it works, however, after 3 years of light home use, the permanent (non-serviceable) grinding assembly and crank shaft fell out, spilling peppercorns all over the table. Rated 2 of 5 stars due to this anomaly. Although 3 years may seem like a long time, other traditional grinders in our family have been grinding for 60 years and still work fine today! The easy loading flip-down loading gate, rotating crank, and high output with each rotation are its best features, surpassing all other grinders. Somehow, the locking-ring that secures the shaft to the interior support bridge broke off, allowing the shaft and grinder mechanism to freely fall out. After gently squeezing and removing the gate, a makeshift repair using a piece of stainless steel 0.041 inch diameter lock-wire was wrapped around the groove in the shaft and twisted-down securely. After re-installing the gate, it's now working again and averted purchasing another grinder. Other buyers reported the clear plastic flip-down loading-gate easily broke. While it appears easy to accidentally break the delicate gate, to prevent damage, grasp the grinder body with the loading gate against your palm with fingers securely wrapped around the back of the grinder body. This will minimize stress on the gate while grinding. UPDATE: March 23, 2025: After the pepper grinder broke, a review of OXO's warranty showed it being under a lifetime warranty. Following which, the online warranty form was completed and submitted accordingly. OXO replied within a day and immediately shipped a replacement! The new replacement was received via FedEx a few days later and is working great. Although, my makeshift repair of the original grinder is still holding-on. I applaud OXO for honoring its warranty and no hassle replacement. It is recommended for everyone to purchase OXO products and enjoy a lifetime of excellent service. We were so excited to see that OXO still made this pepper mill! Ours (which we had for years) finally bit the dust and we knew we wanted the exact same one as it had worked so well for us. This was used almost daily and sometimes many, many times a day and, like I said, help up for years. It's easy to fill, easy to use, and grinds the pepper consistently.

I'll put this tool against ANY other grinder on the market. I've tried countless versions until I found this beauty. I love it for: 1) It's SO much more ergonomic because of the crank. You don't get carpal-tunnel when trying to grind more than just a few twists on top of a caesar salad. Any serious cook needs to grind a lot of pepper, this one allows you to do it quickly and effortlessly. 2) It's SO much easier to load because the chamber has a clear pivoting door that opens and allows you to pour in the whole peppercorns. 3) It's SO much easier to adjust the coarseness of the grind than any other model, it literally has a dead-simple dial on the bottom. I am a competition BBQ pitmaster so I go through a LOT of fresh ground pepper for my briskets (my secret to winning), so grinding a mountain of black pepper would take a Herculean effort without a tool like this. The last one lasted 5 years of pounding daily use before finally failing. Outstanding value!

This pepper mill worked very well and was easy to operate. I liked it a lot, but it didn't last. For the time I had it, I had no complaints but it broke about 5 months after I got it, which was very disappointing. I'm tempted to buy it again, but I won't because I don't trust it to last very long. All the exterior parts are plastic, and they don't wear well.

This is the best pepper grinder in the world. I have bought fancy pepper mills, cheap pepper mills, the ones that are ready to go from the grocery store. This is NUMBER ONE. Why? Quick and easy to fill with flip out fill bin. I use a small funnel for peppercorns. I bought 2 of these: one for black peppercorns and one for white peppercorns. Nothing better than fresh ground pepper! Two: easy to adjust grind on the bottom. Not complicated. Just turn it. New model has a little clip on base plate to keep from making a mess. I love it! I am 62 years old and have been cooking from the age of 30 (I know late bloomer) and this is the very very best pepper grinder EVER. Even if you have dexterity issues, it's easy to spin around and kinda fun, too!

Estuve buscandolo por mucho tiempo, ya que lo tengo puedo decir que valio la espera, esta super practico, se rellena facilmente, muele muy bien la pimienta, muy fina o mas granulada como la prefieras, es de buenos materiales, y por el uso constante que le damos, la verdad es de calidad. VERY VERY Pricey, considering it is a manual grinder. But is does what it says. ALL pepper grinders can grind pepper, even the dirt cheap ones. But even though most of them have fineness control, they fail to make the grinds uniform and the result is coarse grinding. The OXO grinds uniformly. And its coarseness-fineness control really works to your desire. That is what makes it different. If you are not very fussy, any grinder will do. If you are, give OXO a try. Adjustable grind and it works so well. A few twists and all the pepper you could want. Seriously thinking of getting one for salt as well. Very easy to use if your grip isn’t very strong, would be ideal for seniors. Only fault is it isn’t air tight, so oxygen is going to reduce taste quickly.
